Poor, poor, poor. After a day of travelling where we had only had breakfast, we arrive at Emerald unsure on where to eat, we came to the Maraboon Tavern. Once seated in the middle of the room with plenty of more suitable seats, we read through the menu. The menu seemed quite alright, quite a range of meals and pricing wasn’t horrible, could’ve been cheaper. We ordered the parmigiana and the Maraboon Smoked platter, couldn’t have chosen any worse once it arrived.
The parmigiana was Luke warm, chips were just crispy, the platter a mix of chicken wing and mean to be brisket was just as poor. Both meals were luke warm and quite disgusting. The parmigiana tasted odd with most bites had me fearing I’d be spending the night battling in out in the bathroom. The smoked platter was just the same, chicken was just a few degrees warm of cold, both the chicken brisket and added ribs were all the same temperature, the brisket as people know is meant to pul apart and be a tasteful and easy thing to eat. So unless they have changed what brisket is since I had last eaten one I don’t know what happened here at the Maraboon tavern. I write this review 2 days later as I have only just started recovering from this vile and devilish stomach bug that I sure know was from the food. I think even a dog that eats its own feces would struggle if it ate the same thing
. I recommended you steer away from this tavern, KFC, Maccas are available nearby and would recommended the fast food compared to the food you could get...

The general manager of Maraboon Tavern reached out to me via email directly, and was offered a meal tonight to make up for last nights experience.
I chose a different cut of meat tonight, the eye fillet, and it was exceptional, plus the mexican sweet corn entree was nice, and the sticky date pudding + ice cream dessert was nice.
This establishment corrected a mistake, offered to show what they can do, and provided that in spades tonight, and that I applaud them.
Special shout out to Tawhana on front of house, a nice bloke, keep up the good work.
Thank you.

I had a sit down dinner tonight at your establishment.
I ordered the 400gram $38 rump steak.
To say the cut of steak was bad is an understatement, i chewed and spat out half, persisted with a quarter of it, and left the rest as it was inedible.
A staff member asked how my meal was, and I politely stated it was horrible, rubbery, hard gristle and a bad cut of meat, my plate was then swiftly taken back to the kitchen to let them know, then a different staff member comes back to my table, and i was only offered one drink, or a dessert….after I refused those (I just wanted a good steak), a refund was the only outcome here, but was not offered.
My experience was subpar at this point, and I left extremely disappointed and pretty much only about 100grams of steak actually eaten, and not good at all.
I travel into Emerald regularly for work, and this experience has now put me off coming into your...
Read moreMy wife and I are foodies who have eaten in restaurants around the world. However, we have a special like for Australian pubs. Most struggle to get a rating from us. But, the Maraboon leaves me no option than to review.
We went yesterday. We started with half a dozen kilpatick and half a dozen brandy chilli oysters. Devine. We then had the 10 hour smoked ribs. Brilliant. So, we went again today as no other Emerald restaurant could tempt us. Well. We backed up with the brandy chilli oysters again as they were so unique. Still devine. And then the masterpiece. The crispy skinned barramundi with mashed potato, broccolini and a peperonata sauce. I am constantly getting this crispy barramundi where the skin is anything but crispy and the fish is watery. Well, this was the BEST crispy skin we have ever had, and the fish was firm and beautifully cooked. The mash was silky and the broccolini cooked but crisp. And, the peperonata was out of this world. And, the portion size was spot on: not the restaurant I-cannot-see anything-on-plate nor the ridiculously sized pub fare. The result: absolute restaurant quality.
Add great service (both days) and really good atmosphere in the beer garden, it is one of those rare occasions that you just need to let every other...
