This was probably one of the worst and most embarrassing dining experiences we’ve had.
We made the recommendation to business associates and were sorely disappointed.
We started off with drinks. No problems here.
Next step was ordering our meal. Timing of the interactions between wait staff and our group was just bad. There was no waiting for a pause in conversation, it was pretty much “I’m here, you have to listen to me now.” So we ordered.
Then we were offered more drinks.
Then we were offered more drinks again.
Conversation amongst the table continued for nearly an hour before the first cold steaks arrived. Not only were they cold, but they were mixed up too. We waited so long there were about 8 tables around us (who arrived after us) who enjoyed their meals, had gone home and were probably tucked up in bed by the time our mains hit our table. The final meal to arrive at the table was what appeared to be slow cooked, twice reheated rubber gnocchi balls slopped onto the plate upon a brown smear of - something - and topped with ornamental sea froth. I had two pieces and couldn’t force myself to endure the rest of it.
The additional sides came out eventually and the icing on the cake was actually a whole large dollop of sauce being dropped on one of the guests leather boots by the waitress as she cleared the table.
She probably felt horrible and we all felt bad for her. But we were all kind of over it by then too.
All I can say is communication goes a LONG way. There were a lot of opportunities where we could have been notified of the delay, offered a round of free drinks, perhaps had a few concessions given on the final bill - but we only really received an apology out of embarrassment after one guest received a free aioli shoe shine.
While the location is nice, we most likely wouldn’t be returning to this venue with any more of our high profile guests, or anyone else...
Read moreThe staff said we were “weird”.
Disappointed tonight, the wait times I can understand if they were busy or short staffed but they literally had their staff members flirting with the boys around the bar instead of working on their orders. We had to wait up to 30minutes for drinks, I personally only got a beer and still waited that long. They put a lime in my drink when I never requested it and it basically ruined it for me.
The meals took about 45 mins for the entree and a hour or so for the main. I got my meal first out of the table and the last person had to wait maybe 15 mins to get theirs. So while we waited to be polite to the other guests at our table, our food was getting colder and colder. The food was average and I don’t have any issues with it, but for the price of it, you would obviously expect better.
The worst part was when I went to pay for the food. Some of our group had to leave before their drinks were even made (ordered over 30 minutes ago with their meal) but they never came as the staff had forgotten it and lost the receipt for their order. Eventually they found the receipt and made the drinks as the members of the group were leaving. I then went to pay for my meal and the staff member was talking about my table saying that we were really weird people and sounded really annoyed by us. While we may have caused an issue with them because we were leaving when the drinks were finally made and we no longer wanted to purchase them, it’s disappointing that one of their staff members (girl with black hair) were venting about my friends right in front of me (unknowingly).
I can take a bad meal or slow service, but I cannot be happy with staff members bad mouthing my friends to other employees and customers. I...
Read moreDisappointing Dining Experience – Poor Food Quality
Unfortunately, our recent visit to H2O Restaurant and Bar in Bundaberg was incredibly disappointing, both in terms of food quality and service.
We started with the ginger calamari, which was oily and lacked any crispiness. The house-made garlic butter twist was especially underwhelming — it appeared to be frozen and was not properly cooked through, with visible and unpleasant raw dough in the center.
For mains, we ordered the slow-cooked lamb shoulder, which crumbled apart in an odd, powdery way rather than being tender. The taste was off, and it simply didn’t seem right. We also tried the caramelised pumpkin and king oyster mushroom ragu. It came with a dollop of cashew cream that was acrid and unpleasant, and the polenta was chewy — almost like it had been double-fried — rather than crispy. The ragu itself had a strange, artificial flavour, reminiscent of something out of a can.
Neither of us could finish our meals after just a couple bites.
To make matters worse, the meal was surprisingly expensive for the quality we received. When I politely shared that I didn’t enjoy the food and hadn’t finished it, the staff member behind the counter acknowledged my comment but then changed the subject and asked me to settle the bill — no apology, no follow-up.
We were dining with company, and the venue had other patrons, so I chose not to escalate things at the time. However, based on this experience, I cannot recommend H2O. The food did not meet even basic expectations, and the dismissive attitude left a...
