On our visit to Jamaica Blue, everyone seemed to be feeling exactly that - blue. Nobody was happy, there were no smiles, no laughter and no outward signs of general happiness. The lady at the table adjacent to us sighed heavily half a dozen times in as many minutes. I hope she's okay. I, and probably many others, observe that in today's society, very few of us are satisfied with 'average'. An unfortunate consequence of brilliance and excellence being so ubiquitous in our digital age. My club sandwich was entirely 'average'. Not bad, not great, slap bang in the middle. Average. With the exception of warm lettuce (for which I am at fault for getting a toasted club sandwich) everything was totally fine. Not brilliant nor excellent by any measure, but perfectly mediocre, and you know what? That's okay. The avo smash had a conspicuously small serving of avo but I suppose an 'egg smash' doesn't sound as nice. It, again, was fine and both meals were... Nourishing. I tend to think most people come here for the coffee and not for lunch. We discussed the effects of housing and inflation on the mental health of a generation. We agreed that the model on a nearby poster was NOT sporting her natural hair colour. We noted the very mixed bag of people that flood through the shopping centre, and it was accompanied by average food, in an average setting for a pair of very...
Read moreMonday lunch. Not too busy. Ordering was straight forward. Waiting time for meals and drinks was 10 to 12 mins, acceptable. Coffee is good. Table waiter was very good, serving, keeping vacated tables clean, etc. Chips were very good. Poached eggs very good. Salad out of a mixed bag from Coles with a dash of balsamic in it. Fish well presented, but underlying qualty and taste of the fish was poor. Tasted strong like herring. No claim made about what the fish was though. Overall, prices about 15 % too high for this level of cafe, presentation, etc. Will try again one day.
14 Jun, 2018 Visited this place again. Three of us, had one of the burgers and the fish and salad, and bacon and eggs. Serving staff were excellent. Fish is an inferior import, no question, with a strong "fishy" taste. Paradoxically, strong "fishy" taste is not a hall mark of quality fish :) Prices far too high in relation to quality, as the burger also was of no particular distinction at around $18, really, at that price you have to be producing something special and this is NOT that. If you are going to run a decent cafe, then you have to have it all, good food, realistic pricing and good staff. Probably not coming back and not recommending at this...

My recent visit to Jamaica Blue Cafe in Grand Central near Target left much to be desired. Despite the promising menu, my experience was marred by several disappointments.
Firstly, my order of two big breakfasts was botched as only one arrived at the table. When I inquired about the missing dish, the server, who appeared to be new and inexperienced, appeared confused and said she thought it might be coming still, but offered no solution and failed to follow up on the matter.
Furthermore, the coffee we ordered was overly sweetened with syrup, rendering it undrinkable. We had to resort to diluting it with milk purchased from Coles. Additionally, the hash browns, for which we paid extra, tasted stale, indicating a need for maintenance of the fryer.
To add to the dissatisfaction, the tomato on the plate was underripe and had an unpleasant taste.
In summary, my overall experience at Jamaica Blue Cafe was subpar, and I would not recommend it. Improvements in staff training or pairing inexperienced staff with more competent colleagues could enhance the dining experience for...
