National Hotel Toowoomba — Hotel in Toowoomba City

It was a lot better when the previous manager from NZ ran it. The food was better, the atmosphere was better, it was moving to having an upmarket feel about it; however now that she has been replaced by the new manager, the place has plummetted downhill at a rapid pace. The place no longer has class, there is a pool table in the middle of the nice room with a large bookshelf, giving the place a cheap look and nowhere near as pleasant to be there. The meal we had today was atrocious, a very dry and overfried crumbed steak and overfried and dry chips, with a much smaller salad than what they used to give. It was an appalling experience - we ended up leaving our meal unfinished, as it was tortuous to try and finish it. It was the worst meal I ever had, and unbelievable that the manager served it to us as it looked how it tasted. I never want to go back there again. Speaking to her was a waste of time and energy, she said I was the only one that complained and everyone else was happy with everything. I wish the previous manager was back there again, she was so pleasant, had class and had an uplifting effect on the place - and the food was excellent, now its not even fit for a dog - honestly, what was served us today I would not give to my dog - it...

Stayed recently whilst I was amid some unexpected accommodation crisis. Payed a week in advance, was never informed upon paying that I wouldn't be allowed visitors without signing them through the bar & having their cards photocopied first. 2 nights into my stay I stopped by my room after lunch with a friend to gift them a bag of clothes. Friend was only few minutes quickly in n out, afterwards I was promptly kicked out to my puzzlement. Staff immediately came to my door and came across rude and arogant. Male assistant snickered and kept glaring at me turning his nose up. Female manager kept ordering me to hurry up whilst I was packing my belongings. When I spoke up to say they were rude and asked the male to stop staring at me, he proceeded to try and fight me. I was then also refused a refund of the $300 I had paid even though had been there only 2 nights (around $80-90). They even tried to charge an extra $80 for "the floor" which simply needed a vacuum. When informed that the owner was kicking out a homeless man and basically stealing his money she said she didn't care. Room stunk when I arrived and was right next to where other patrons smoked. I've stayed here twice now the first time was fantastic and was the main reason I was so excited to be coming back the second time but I can definitely say I will never be coming back again.

It's a cheap price and you get what you pay for the rooms are nothing special a bed a small fridge and a tv wait no scratch that no tv I'm not sure if they have just removed them all since my first visit or it was just the room I got but yeah no tv annoying but not a deal breaker.

I understand that this place is a pub and the first time I stayed I was rather worried about it but no up in my room all was pretty quiet was able to sleep watch tv comfortably and enjoy my stay. This time round however it was incredibly loud the bed was shaking it was so loud every note can be felt vibrating up through the floor. The volume did lower a bit after a while no more bed shaking but it was still loud enough to feel through the floor and continued on until between 12 and 1am. Not great when you're paying for a bed to sleep in.

Also the wifi is horrible both times, first time it was extremely slow to the point that it was unusable. And this time the network didn't even show up in the list of...
