First time customer of Angliss Meats Toowoomba.
Positives: Easy online ordering system. Easy to pay with a number of options. 24 hour turn around and answering queries. The Diamantina Stanbroke Wagyu (whole beef Wagyu rump mb 4-5 sliced by Angliss Meats) was lovely whether cooked on grill, bbq, air fried, pan seared, or oven baked!
Negatives: There seems to be a glitch with the online system. Ordering: when you put in 2x one item, the second doesn't show in the cart at all (not itemizing) however the total to be paid includes the 2x. Cataloguing: some items aren't correctly catalogued, e.g. potato scallops can be found in the chicken category. No communication about difference in paid vs invoiced amount and it's not answered in the online FAQ's. Answer: I found out that it gets refunded after COB on delivery day, direct to original method of payment. No communication regarding delivery time nor an anticipated timeframe of delivery. It was written on the invoice (handed over as the order is being delivered) to "PHONE WITH DELIVERY TIME PRIOR" (exactly how it's printed on the invoice), however this isnt done. The beef Wagyu rump had a lot of side fat. From end cuts of the rump portion to the large sizably cut steaks. (refer photos) Please don't laugh at how I prep my wagyu (in photo), I'm still learning about how best to prep and cook. The ordered 'Crumbed Pork Chops' was titled 'Pork Forequarter Chops', not sure if there's any difference. However the crumbed pork had a lot of crumb. A lot. (refer photos). Item total weight package 1105g, and after crumbed pork (and negligible crumb that ended up everywhere upon opening) was removed it the container and remaining crumb weighed 125g. (refer photos) The crumbed pork was about 1cm high (incl crumb) and was approx 50% bone. (refer photos) Question was asked if bone is in crumbed pork and Angliss Meats confirmed bones are in them. (Please don't plan on using the crumbed pork in crumbed pork steak burgers!)
Why the 3* review. Start off with 5*, add 4 positives, less 6 negatives.
This is of course my opinion following my purchase and everyone's is different however this was...
Read moreWe went to Angliss Meats (first visit) hoping to find better quality meat than we'd been getting at the supermarkets.
The first thing we asked for was Pork Loin chops - they had none. Then we asked for 2kg of their premium mince (which looked nice and fresh behind the glass) and received a 'pre-bagged' package of mince that didn't look so great when we got it home. This so called 'premium' mince was also very, very fatty when we cooked it.
We bought a tray of chicken breasts. When we got home and unpacked the tray we couldn't believe how big they were. They honestly looked like they'd been cut off some prehistoric bird or a chicken on steroids. Not one of them weighed under 400 grams. We're dreading having to eat them because we just know they're going to be 'woody' and tasteless.
We asked for a couple of thin pork sausages but they only sold them prepackaged. The packages were labelled 'thin breakfast sausages' and when I questioned this the woman serving us assured me they were pork. Unfortunately I didn't have my glasses with me to check the fine print on the label. When we got home and I was able to read it properly I saw that these so called pork sausages didn't contain ANY meat, let alone pork!! (picture of label attached to this review) How they get away with doing such a thing is beyond me and I really wish I knew who to report them to. To add insult to injury the sausages also had a slimey texture and an odd odour so they went straight in the bin.
Our experience with Angliss Meats was not a positive one and we certainly won't be going back...
Read moreI bought a piece of rump-cap from a meat specialist two weeks ago, it was only the second time I had ever bought rump-cap and I was amazed, it was the most delicious steak I have eaten in living memory! It was tasty, soft and buttery, and just outstanding. I therefore decided to buy another one but from closer to home this time from Angliss Meats. It was a disaster and a massive disappointment, it was hard, tough and chewy, nothing like the first one and I was bloody upset to put it mildly. I am not an elitist but when I pay top money for supposedly top quality beef that is what I expect to...
