Songbird’s restaurant nestled in Songbird’s Rainforest Retreat and Spa is a lovey rustic fine dining experience that won’t disappoint.
The waitress is friendly and accommodating, the chef and kitchen hand are very friendly and offer a good chat. The chef makes the rounds to each table and has a chat about the food she’s prepared which is a dedicated old fashion service which is these days uncommon but still well sought after in the foody community.
What we ordered: Entree - cheesy garlic bread Mains - Rib loin steak with roast potato and seasoned greens and hubby had salt and pepper calamari with chips and salad. Dessert - homemade cheesecake of the week - passionfruit!!!
The cheesy garlic bread was well balanced with creamy camembert grilled and finished with a drizzle of balsamic glaze and a pinch of bagle seasoning on top as garnish. Was delicious and a great way to start off our dinner experience.
My steak was amazing, mouth watering and cooked to perfection and was the star of the dinner in my opinion. Chef chargrilled the steak with care, and the fat rendered to perfection. Every bite was absolutely delicious. Very good price for well cooked grass fed locally sourced beef. My hubbys calamari was soft and also cooked to perfection… just right! The homemade slaw was surprisingly tasty with bits of bacon and sweet corn added to entice very forkful.
The desert was a show stopper. Chefs curative sugar work was delightfully moreish. The creamy texture of the cheesecake was well balanced with passionfruit curd and then constructed with a few crunch elements such as lady finger sponges and meringue and sugar pearls, all of which made a lovely bed for the cheesecake to sit on. And the cheesecake was also a very generous size.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The restaurant itself was a quiet and peaceful setting.
All in all, hubby and I weren’t disappointed considering our high expectations of food. The meals were absolutely well priced, the portions were very generous and the staff were all round pleasant and friendly. Can’t fault the customer service or the food. Great space for events and from what we were told are very accommodating to your needs.
Would recommend you book the rainforest retreat accommodation and stay in a hut and also make a dinner reservation for yourself if heading this way to truely embrace and emerse yourself in the whole tranquil, relaxing experience that...
Read moreWhat a fall from grace. From an award-winning restaurant to what we experienced last night. Carpark, pretty much in darkness (definitely didn't feel welcoming) Reception shut! Restaurant was not warm and so bleak looking. Dirty floors and tables that looked like something out of a hostel. Had to ask for a light to go in the candle cup on the table. 2 couples left in the space of half an hour because of the lack of service. Menu was poorly presented. Lack of selection as well. Plentiful amount of food when it was delivered. No salt and pepper on the tables. Chowder was watery and the prawns still had tails and heads on. Rather bland as well. The prawn noodle dish also had the prawns with tails still on. Annoying to have to cut these off! We visited here 14 years ago for our wedding anniversary and were treated to an amazing experience and last night I came away feeling very sad. This place could be great again with the right management. I would be happy to give some...
Read moreMyself and partner arrived at Songbirds for a night away to relax and unwind. The villa was lovely. However when we went for dinner at the restaurant we were blown away. Being our first time there we were expecting amazing service and food. However it was very bleh for us. We had to go up to order drinks and ask for service. Food was ok and we were greeted by the chef to thank us for our patience as our food took a long time. And only then we were offered a glass of our choice. My partner was also served with a beer in a can 🤷♀️ The restaurant had a gloomy feel. And wasn't very inviting. The kitchen area was full of plastic blue bags everywhere with I don't know what in them. And glasses cups were left sitting at a counter waiting to be cleaned for some time. The waiter even had to clean a glass for my wine and I was left with tea towel fluff inside of it. All in all apart from the chef coming out to thank us. That was the only nice part about it. I don't think we...
