Went at lunchtime, first visit and for take-away. I don't run around leaving bad reviews, but my wife and I really didn't enjoy the food at all. I should point out that the staff we encountered were super-friendly, helpful & courteous. We bought a good selection of meals, spending around $60, and found the portions generous enough - however, we found all dishes a little too oily, and with that, the oil had an underlying flavour of not being fresh, as if over-used and in need of replacement, rather than fresh as one would expect it to be.....I am unsure precisely why this was, but it was very obvious to us. I note the many, many great reviews here - we could perhaps have gone on a bad day, for whatever reason, I really don't know......we were looking forward to having a new place to use, and the menu appeared very decent and varied. It just didn't hit the mark at all for us - I can't suggest otherwise, much as I'd love to. Virtually all of the food was thrown away at home, it was simply not up to scratch, and we are not, in any way, the fussiest of eaters, let alone people who spend all their time complaining for the sake of it. I hope, for all others sake, that our experience was a blip on an otherwise decent place - the reviews would seem to suggest as much, at least. I can only report it, in this review, as it was honestly experienced and, it will be hard for us to...

I've been in a dim sum blitz over the last few weeks. Third and last port of call in Cairns is Yum Sing in Lake St.

It's hard to get dim sum in Cairns, this is one of the few providing it. The dim sum here is good with genuine tastes compared to SE Asia. Not as good as that but that's not a realistic expectation. It's quite good for Australia and very good for Cairns.

I went with friends and we ordered 7 dishes, less than the 11 we ordered last week which reflects the smaller menu / selection available here. The dishes were mostly good but a few (or one) disappointed slightly.

Traditional favourites siu mai & har gao were good. Har gao is my favourite dish and this was the best of the ones I've had recently in Cairns. The siu mai didn't look right but tasted good. The other dishes were good, too, except the turnip cake which was a bit controversial in my group. Two of us didn't like it or thought it was just so-so but one thought it was good.

The restaurant itself was popular and with a lot of customers for a Wednesday lunch.

Overall it was a good experience and...

We arrived looking for a table for 2 and the server told us there wasn’t a table so we said we’d wait. She continued to try to persuade us that it would take 45 minutes and we shouldn’t wait. There was a table outside that just needed to be cleaned so after discussing we’d wait she cleared off the table for us. We ordered and were prepared to wait. It took 30 minutes for our food to arrive and we never received any service after that. No check in or even asking if we wanted dessert. Went to pay the bill and we were charged more for our meal than what was shown on bill. I disputed the amount and the worker said it’s my bank charging me that. I disagreed and I showed the bill showing the amount paid was more plus the surcharge. Another worker started pointing at the surcharge sign, that wasn’t the issue. The issue was getting charged more for my meal than what was shown on the bill, I understand the surcharge. I was told go talk to my bank. We will not be back and will not refer family and friends to...

After reading the reviews, I really wanted this experience to be 5 stars. Unfortunately, my tasting was 3 and a half at best. The restaurant was nicely set out, the service was quite quick & the staff were very efficient & friendly. Unfortunately I was let down by parts of the food. I started with Pork Wontons, which had a delicious filling & dipping sauce, but were presented in a very oily wrapper. I then tried the steamed Pork & Prawn dumplings, which were very nice. However, the dipping sauce provided was very spicy & overpowered the dumpling itself. I finished with the BBQ Pork Yakisoba, which was presented nicely, was well cooked & had wonderful flavours. However, after eating half the dish, I was left with a greasy taste in my mouth. The serving sizes at this restaurant were good & their prices are very reasonable.

Food I dined at this restaurant and had a mixed experience. The food, unfortunately, fell short of expectations. The sweet and sour dish was dry, and the beef with zucchini turned out to be too salty for my taste. Service In terms of service, the restaurant can get quite busy. We waited for approximately 30 minutes, which may be a consideration for those with limited time. Atmosphere As for the atmosphere, it tends to be noisy and packed, creating a lively but potentially overwhelming environment. If you're seeking a quiet dining experience, this might not be the ideal spot.
