Kawana Waters Hotel — Restaurant in Sunshine Coast Regional

Unfortunately I'm giving this place a 1 star, we went over a month ago for a kids free night in a very long time, ordered 1 Doz of oysters 1/2 kg of kilo of prawns, rib fillet with chips and salad and a caesar salad, we waited over 40mins to get our main meals, as they brought over the main meals, I said that we still have not received our oysters and they had said they had been looking for us for ages, even though we did not move from the table the whole time, I explained to them I did not want to be eating all of this at once and we would like to have our meals after our entree, they put the steak under the heat lamp and waited until we were ready. They did not even bother changing the chips or salad, so got served gross chips, I asked for the manager and she was absolutely lovely, she gave us a voucher and we decided to bring the kids and have a family dinner on the Tuesday night.

I called made a reservation for inside and they booked us for the booth, we arrived at the time of reservation and they decided to seat us outside as there were no booths available, so we just sat outside without complaints, went up to the bar to order and got the waiter to re read everything out, as we ordered 1 Doz of oysters 1 Doz of scallops two kids meals, a steak and a caesar salad, as he read it out I said please make sure the oysters and scallops come out with the kids meals, and he said yes that's fine, 5 mins within sitting down the kids meals arrived and no oysters or scallops, we didn't say anything just yet, thinking they were coming back, 10 mins had past and my partner asked where our oysters and scallops were, the waiter said he will go and look for us and then all of a sudden the main meals and the oysters and scallops came all at once, dajavoo. My partner said to a staff member why is our mains coming out with the scallops and oysters and all he could say was huh! Very loudly in his face, I said we asked for these to be separate. He said they all come out together, the other waitress asked if we had told them to bring it out earlier, I said yes I asked for it to be with the kids meals. I wasn't happy this had happened again. The manager came over to asked what happened and I explained it to her and showed it on my receipt. She was very standoffish and said what is it that you want us to do, I said I would like our food to be put to the side with fresh chips and salad, and for it to be back in 10 mins she was fine with it and did not even apologise or come back to explain why this had happened, another staff member came and handed our dinner over and was the only one to apologise for the issue. The manager came and had a look over at the table as the plates were there and said oh I see you got your food and walked off and that was the last we had seen of her that night, we were disappointed as the food is actually really good, service was absolutely horrible. I hope you have a good look at the staff members that are employed in the restaurant and really consider training them on how to be respectful and how to speak...

I am surprised at the high number of good reviews as my experience tonight was very disappointing. The staff were friendly although unapologetic about the experience we recieved, and the dining area was ok. But there was a ridiculously long wait for food, over an hour and half, although it was satisfying to watch many of the other customers complain about their equally long wait for their food, that should not be the highlight of an evening out with friends and family. When my food was eventually ready it was cold and of mediocre quality and without cutlery. It was such a bad experience it became funny to see how bad it could get. However the prices were very good and had the food been ok it would have been a bargain. Sadly my family and I left most of the food and went to eat somewhere else after. Judging by some of the other reviews on here I can only assume this was a very bad night for the restaurant and far from the norm, but I can't possibly recommend this place as I would never want anyone to have their evening spoiled as much as ours was. When I approached the staff before I left to explain my disappointment I received no apology or explanation. This in itself is largely inexcusable UPDATE After the reply from the manager, I I emailed them as suggested offering to provide any information to help but my email has been ignored so I would still be cautious if planning to use this restaurant. UPDATE 2 I have now had an email from the manager and as he said below in his updated response , he overlooked my original email. The fact that he took the time to reply and review my comments many weeks after my review goes someway to help remove doubts I would have about going back and this combined with the number of positive reviews ( and not many negative reviews) also tends to suggest that this was just a very bad night . Thought we would go out for lunch and we pulled into the kawana waters hotel. To be honest I hadn't been there for at least 8 years, nothing much had changed besides the kids park on the deck. The venue is starting to really show its age , but it's outlook over the marina is still lovely. The menu seriously didn't dazzle me just the same old pub style menu from years ago, the chef specials was that poorly advertised that I didn't get the special vibe. My partner and I decided to get the BBQ pork ribs with special sauce and a couple of kids meals and a beverage each which just came in shy of $100.00. Now who doesn't like BBQ Ribs! Well to be honest 100% honest with you I love my ribs and I was hungry and my expectations weren't through the roof but.....how can you stuff up BBQ pork ribs. I was so disappointed when my partner placed my plate Infront of me, I knew at first glance that the ribs had been no where near a BBQ or char plate or let alone a oven, I could tell the ribs had come out of a microwave placed on my plate and been sparingly drizzled in the special sauce. There was nothing appealing about this dish, in reality the ribs had been braised in the sauce until ribs where tender they had been cooled and portioned down into takeaway containers and microwaved to order and that's the reason they were absolutely disgusting. The coleslaw was bland and unflavoursome but on a good note the chips were good. The kids meals were not bad for kids meals as they included a drink and icecream for dessert. Who ever job it is at the kawana waters hotel to 'OK' the standard of food that is served out to the consumer should be sacked ! the chef should look for a new career as it is absolutely obvious that he or she has lost the spark and passion for food.

Such a disappointment I won't be back for at least another 8yrs.
