TL;DR: Poor service and communication, extremely long wait; and okay food.
I'm usually willing to give places I've never eaten the benefit of the doubt, however this was probably one of the worst experiences dining out I've had in a long time.
We were seated outside at around 6:45PM and ordered food plus drinks. Had a good feeling because the live music and atmosphere was nice in the warm summer night. We didn't get the name of the waiter who served us, but he was wearing a cap backwards, so let's call him "Cap Guy".
There were 4 of us and we ordered a couple of slices each (not a big ask given they are meant to be a pizzeria serving NY style slices) plus a side of sweet potato fries. We also let them upsell us their signature garlic knots (because the guy wearing the cap said it was a must), again this was our first time here so why not.
Drinks took a little while, maybe 30 minutes to come but we accepted that they were pretty busy when we arrived so it was ok, and the young chap who served them (not cap guy) at least acknowledged it took a while and apologised for the delay.
Proceeded to then wait over 1 hour from ordering for just the starters and 1.5 hours (90 mins) for our 1-3 slices per person. It was about 8:40PM when our pizza arrived (reminder, we ordered at 6:45PM).
The first yellow flag was for the starters, they brought us normal fries instead of sweet potato so that was disappointing. But we'd already waited so long that we weren't going to risk asking them to take it back in the chance we were going to wait another hour, so we accepted it. The garlic knots were ok but certainly not worth the hype cap guy said they were worth.
By this stage, we'd been sitting and waiting for so long seeing take away orders being sent away that we were wondering if they even had our pizza order. At no stage, was there any acknowledgement by any of the wait staff that there were delays to our meals coming out. We asked the cap guy if they were still making pizzas and sure enough he said he'd check, but again, no acknowledgement at all after that.
By the time the slices came out, we'd already lost our appetite having already eaten fries and garlic knots.
When the first dish of slices arrived, cap guy even had the audacity to say "oh that looks great" as he placed the pizza in front of me. Again no acknowledgement at all about the delay.
The pizzas were fine. I had the artichoke, the Peter piper and the cheese pizza. The first two were decent but the cheese pizza was dry, bland and disappointing.
Much like the entire experience dining here. Perhaps this was a freak, once-off experience and the kitchen just had one of those nights, but I can accept that we occasionally have bad nights.
What I can't accept is poor communication. All it would've taken to make this experience better was for someone to just let us know that the kitchen is struggling and give us a rough idea how long it's going to take. That way, we could've just relaxed, ordered another drink and it would've been fine. But instead, we were left twiddling our thumbs wondering if we were ever going to get fed.
The only positive I have to say is about the young wait staff (with cap guy being the exception), they were all nice and one of them offered us a 10% discount when we mentioned that we waited a very long time for food.
I hope for their sake that it's a one-off but based on my experience, I cannot recommend this...
Read moreI ordered the Italian Hoagie Roll on the waitresses recommendation. $24 for the meal - what came out was less than a 6foot sub from subway with the majority of the meal made up by hot chips. While the flavour was nice it wasn’t amazing and definitely wasn’t worth the price tag. I ordered 2 local tap beers from the menu- nice enough but the second beer came out smelling like dishwashing liquid and left a weird after taste.
The staff were friendly and prompt with myself as I was a table for 1 but the table next to me a table of 4- were left waiting for an extensive period, drink orders wrong and insufficient, with commentary on the food that suggested the pizza wasn’t amazing either. It was very clear they were unhappy as they were direct with the staff and loudly vocalised their dissatisfaction.
The staff were focused on the 2100 closing time even though there were multiple tables and people still walking in at 2040. Felt rushed and un-welcomed to relax and have an enjoyable time at the restaurant with a few drinks and the opportunity to explore the menu. The kitchen and bar were closed by 2040.
Overall disappointing experience, even though I still have a few nights in Dicky Beach and have been looking for dining out options walking distance to my accommodation, I won’t be returning to...
Read moreHad my hopes fairly high as it was rated really well. Started out great, the staff was very friendly to my pup who was sitting outside with my partner and I. Was a bit rocky when I was trying to order Pasito to drink and they didn't understand what I wanted and it made me feel a bit dumb (I have issues with some Australian words, but my partner assured me I was saying it properly). Chips came out and were decent enough. Unfortunately by the time they brought out the grease-soaked "cheesus" slices I ordered with a distinct look I was worried about, it went downhill. I patted them down (fully soaking up my napkin) to get most of the grease off of them and wasn't totally deterred yet because it's pizza and good pizza is usually still greasy. I took a bite and it was absolutely horrible. I'm fairly certain they've used Tasty cheese for the pizza as it has the same grease, look, texture, and taste as it. I got through less than half of my first slice (I really hate wasting money) and decided I wasn't wasting a stomachache on the rest no matter what the $14 wasted was.
tldr; Good...
