Food was great/excellent, but service/facilities a tad bit lacking. Excellent food. Seafood was as fresh as could be. Facilities and menu could use an upgrade.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and seated. We asked for a high chair but the staff promptly walked off ignoring us, so we got up to get one stacked at the entry. To my dismay, all the high chairs had broken straps so my 1.5 yo was constantly standing up in it and creating havoc.
Then came ordering. A lady came over to give us menus but told us we had to order and pay at the counter. I asked her about the chefs special risotto (the menu says to ask about it and I had done some research about the spanner crab risotto with pea puree and bacon). She confirmed it was spanner crab. So, I get up to go order and the chef tells me they risotto is prawn, scallop and pumpkin puree (which sounds like the regular menu risotto, not the chefs special. After a third staff member intervenes they finally inform me there is only the regular pumpkin risotto, and there is no chef special (they tell me the menus are old). Disappointed Ted, I the decide I’ll have the mussels. They regret to inform me they don’t have mussels. So, I quickly make a rash decision to order the seafood chowder (same main as another companion). I also order my toddler a pasta Napoletana which isn’t officially on the menu, but the kind staff are happy to accommodate. Bless them!
For entrees we orderthe coconut prawns (6 pieces) and 1/2 doz (6 pieces) oysters kilpatrick to share between four adults. Two of us ordered the seafood chowder and the other two ordered the pumpkin, prawn and scallop risotto, and the crumbed barramundi with chips.
Finally our food arrives! Oddly enough one chowder and two mains came out together, and then the last persons chowder (mine) comes out 7 mins later (spoiler alert it was piping hot and couldn’t be eaten and so I ended up holding the group up). This was strange given we arrived at 5pm (toddler eating hours) and the venue wasn’t that busy. You would think they’d cook both chowders at the same time. This was quite disruptive to my toddler who was growing weary and becoming delirious. Mother hadn’t gotten her main, so she could t exactly leave with toddler. Then we had the issue of it being piping hot and needing time to cool.
Nevertheless, the quality of the food was great. The risotto was generous with scallops and prawns and the barramundi was delicate and sweet. We also got a toddler/kids pasta sauce which was delicious! (I ate toddlers leftovers whilst waiting for my chowder). The chowder was average (the seafood in it was excellent though). Plus, the crust baguette that gets served with it was tops.
Overall, a pleasant evening. The chefs did well, the produce was very fresh and generous. The facilities and communication could use a...
Read moreReal seafood, finally!
Freshest and best seafood at Sunshine Coast, I think.
Phil and Surinder (and others) always take pride in the quality of the fish and shellfish. I've eaten there every New Year's time for about 5 years. The Tempura Mooloolaba King Prawns are probably the best in the world (Japan included). They are just as nice cooked in the shell. Other stuff on their big menu...Moreton Bay Bugs, Crayfish, Crab, Tuna, Barramundi, Scallops, Seafood Baskets...all excellent!!
It may be a few dollars more than a standard fish and chip shop, but the freshness and cooking quality is much much higher. Nothing at the Sunshine Coast has matched its quality for me at this price range. Actually, I would much rather eat at The Deck than many Moloolaba restaurants that are much more expensive.
The restaurant is in the same building as the Mooloolaba Fish Market (where many fishing boats come in). There is a very casual atmosphere with a pleasant view of the nice river.
I recommend any traveller to enjoy a meal. Beer and wine is available...
Read moreCame here Saturday 1st of Feb around 5.30pm. Ordered food downstairs & waited upstairs at a table with my family for our food. We had a closed shopping bag containing a drink sauce and my in-laws medications in the bag on a chair next to us. The older woman Waitress didn’t get her name so we shall call her Karen questioned what was in the bag and told us we weren’t allowed to have outside drinks/food on the premises we told her that’s perfectly fine we’re jus waiting on our food. That didn’t seem to satisfy her enough so she picked up our bag and informed us till then she’ll have to keep our bag behind the counter. What a disrespectful, entitled attitude she displayed and full of passive aggression. She had no authority to touch our personal belongings.I got up straight away and retrieved the bag from the counter the young guy working seemed shocked at her Karen attitude too. Maybe she needs to rethink a different career path from the hospitality industry maybe a retirement village is...
