☀️ Family run Vietnamese restaurant Inner West, Sydney. ☀️ This mom and pop's traditional Vietnamese restaurant, migrated from Vietnam and came here with nothing but few cents. They've battled through but with tough competition - four other Vietnamese restaurants within two blocks with another Banh Mi restaurant just opening down the road. ☀️ Would like to give a shout out to them and not only are their prices affordable but tastes delicious. ☀️What we had: -Banh mi 💙Vietnamese traditional pork roll $7.50 🔥🔥🔥 Crispy pork $8.50 (Sunni recommends) 💜 BBQ pork $7.50 🧡 Plant - based chicken $8.50 (for vegan friendly humans) -Bowls $15.50 🩵 Pho Bo (beef pho) 🩷 Bun Bo Hue (Hue's style spicy beef and pork noodle) 💛 Mi Suon (soft bone pork ribs with egg noodle) 🔥🔥🔥 Bo Kho (beef stew with bread or noodle): SPECIAL - not many Vietnamese restaurants serve and make this dish well. 💚 Vietnamese rice paper roll (prawns or beef) $8.50 ☕ Vietnamese iced coffee $6 🥤Sugar cane juice $6.50 🧉Fresh juice $6.50

28/7/24 - 4.5 stars A quaint neighbourhood Vietnamese eatery with no frills. Stumbled across this whilst roaming Ashfield and thought it would be worth a try seeing all the great reviews. Ticks all the boxes for an authentic Viet cheap-eat but service was quite good. Crispy pork banh mi Bread: S+, 8.5/10. Crispy and a bit fluffy inside, so definitely good but not the best I've had. Maybe if they kept them warmed? Pork: S, 8/10. Good but again have had better Pate: ??, I did ask for less but couldn't really taste it at all which might have contributed to the dryness Garnish: S+, 8.5/10. Pickles and salad were fresh and tasty. Value: S, 8/10. $8.5 is a bit cheaper than other places Pho bo Broth: S+, 8.5/10. Fairly good, though just a little less depth and complexity than other places Beef: S, 8/10. No big issues though would have liked some less lean pieces Value: SS, 9/10. $14.5 is one of the cheapest I've encountered

Sadly in my opinion it isn't the best I've had. I've been here twice and it seems to be the norm that their rolls are extremely messy and drippy with excess liquids. Regarding flavour, yes it is tasteful and generous in veggies (they give you more variety than the average pork roll). They also have a sanitiser at the counter. The downfall was the excess liquids, as well as getting our orders either wrong or mixed up everytime we went. She gave us pork when I asked for chicken. This would end badly if I couldn't touch pork! Recommended if in the area but not to drive all the way for this. I still believe Campsie, Bankstown and Cabramatta top it.

I can't comment on the other food items at this establishment, but unfortunately the pork rolls were the worst I have ever had in 20 years.

If you have eaten enough pork rolls in your time, and know how they should taste, the flaws are as clear as day;

The baguette must be fluffy on inside and crispy/flaky on the outside. The 3 rolls I had were completely soft (even prior to the dressing being added at the end).

The Vietnamese style mayonnaise should be buttery with a mix of sweetness and savouriness, whereas the one used here was literally a sweet mayonnaise that can be purchased from any supermarket.

The porks rolls were drenched with a soy-sauce based dressing that not only over-flavoured the rolls, but completely made them soggy and sloppy. Combine that with an already soft baguette, and you are set for an unenjoyable experience.

The servings of meat were lacking. All other places I've been to have provided a more adequate amount.

The service level was standard, however, better listening skills are needed, esp. when you ask a customer whether or not they want chilli in their rolls.

Perhaps their other dishes are better made, but I will be staying well clear of the pork rolls...
