Parked the front of this restaurant, lucky it has 4 hour free parking. There wasn't a lot of people there, while looking at the menu just outside the restaurant the server greeted us and welcomed us to go in. We told her that my wife is a vegetarian and had additional dietary requirements such as can't have onion or garlic, she said not to worry theh can cook it anyway we want. And so we ordered the xinjiang fry noodle with vegan(I think they meant stir-fry and vegetables) and eggplant dumplings that she said its suitable for her dietary requirements, and also a pot of chinese tea. The pot of tea is priced at $3, although some restaurants provide it free of charge I didn't mind it as it was clearly priced, however she didn't know what type of tea it was, and I'm one of those people who prefer to know know what I'm buying So, the serving order was tea, dumplings then the xinjiang fry noodle, the wait wasn't too long. The dumpling had an obvious garlic taste so I end up eating it myself, it wasn't the best but also not too bad. The tea was also okay, I can't make out what type of tea it was, it resembles the free teas offered at vietnamese restaurants. It's nice to have in cold weathers, but I'm not sure if it can be freely refilled. Xianjiang fry noodles wasn't too bad either, had enough flavour and fresh vegies. Every table has condiments: soy sauce, vinegar and chilli oil. Be mindful of the chili oil, it's suitable for those enjoy chilli, but would be a tad strong for those with low tolerance to chilli. While enjoying my meal I also noticed a sign saying a seating time limit of 40-45 (I think). If you want to visit this restaurant remember to bring cash, it's cash only.

I don’t have a photo of the food, but just the receipt. The service at this place is honestly quite rude, and no, it’s not just a cultural difference in customer service. They are just rude. They know they’re busy, they know people will come regardless, and they act like they don’t care. We ordered dumplings, eggplant, and fried rice. The rice arrived very late, right at the end of the meal, even after we desperately ordered some noodles as we were still hungry. We had already finished the eggplant dish and had a plate of basically white rice with a bit of oil and chive and a barely visible egg. Basically we had to eat plain rice. When we mentioned it to the manager, she simply said there was nothing she could do. Not even an apology. My partner insisted that he was not happy and got a $3 discount. To make things worse, we were sitting outside and, at some point, they squeezed in another table right next to us to seat two more guests. The table was not only practically attached to ours but was also placed right in front of the entrance, making it difficult for people to get in or out without brushing past diners. The food is okay but not that cheap, the rice is $17 when it was literally a couple of scoops of plain rice. I really don't understand the long queues here! Either way there is no excuse for poor service or failing to apologise when something goes wrong. I definitely won’t be coming back.

What an unusual place, 1st picture an employee making dumplings in the middle of the restaurant how unusual and unhealthy. Next picture we have eggplant (very odd flavour give it a miss) dumpling, pork and chives and what looks like a herb dumpling all of them with roughly 10 grams of filling if that. Picture number three, we have a combination of three different dumplings and when you asked the waitress what dumpling is what her reply is I can’t tell you. Sorry if you don’t know what is what how am I supposed to know what I’m eating. Next we have some fried pork dumpling with little or no presentation. Last we have the Har-Gow you guessed it very little prawn almost unnoticeable. The icing on the cake comes right at the very end, you go to pay and they charge you 1.5% surcharge for you using your own money, what a rip-off banks only charge 0.6% or 0.7% it is such a small amount every restaurant can absorb the small % they are charged. There are better dumpling restaurants in the area with better service and more wholesome filling dumplings. If I could rate this place less then 1 star I would.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chinese Dumpling Master in Newtown, and I can confidently say this is one of the best dumpling spots I’ve ever visited! From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for something special. The cozy, no-frills atmosphere immediately made me feel at home, and the friendly staff were quick to greet us and get us settled in.

The menu is straightforward but incredibly enticing—focused entirely on dumplings, and it does not disappoint. We started with the pan-fried dumplings, which were absolutely flawless. The crispy, golden-brown bottoms and tender, juicy filling made each bite heavenly. The combination of pork, chives, and a hint of ginger was perfectly balanced, and the dipping sauce that accompanied the dumplings was spot on—a little tangy with a touch of heat, which enhanced the overall flavor.

Next, we tried the steamed dumplings filled with a savory mix of shrimp and pork. These dumplings were delicate and bursting with flavor, with the filling so fresh and succulent that it practically melted in your mouth. The texture of the dumpling skin was just right—soft but sturdy enough to hold the delicious filling without being too thick or doughy. You can tell that they put a lot of care into making each dumpling.

The soup dumplings (xiaolongbao) were another standout. The delicate dough encased a delicious, rich broth along with the tender pork filling. The balance of flavors was amazing, and the soup inside each dumpling was hot, savory, and comforting. They provided spoons and napkins for the inevitable messy (but delicious) enjoyment that comes with these tasty morsels!

We also ordered a side of stir-fried noodles with vegetables, which was a perfect complement to the dumplings. The noodles were cooked perfectly—chewy and satisfying—and the vegetables were crisp and fresh. It wasn’t greasy, which I really appreciated, and the flavors were spot on. A great addition to the meal.

The service was incredibly efficient, and our food arrived quickly, despite the restaurant being busy. The staff were attentive, friendly, and seemed genuinely proud of the food they were serving. We didn’t have to wait long for refills of tea or to ask questions about the menu, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

As for the prices, they are incredibly reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you receive. You’re definitely getting great value for your money, and I left feeling completely satisfied. If you’re a fan of dumplings or just craving authentic Chinese food, Chinese Dumpling Master is an absolute must-visit.

Overall, this spot truly lives up to its name. Whether you’re a dumpling connoisseur or just looking for a cozy place to enjoy delicious, authentic Chinese comfort food, Chinese Dumpling Master in Newtown is where you want to be. I can’t wait to return and try even more dishes from their menu. Highly recommend this gem to anyone in the area! Five stars...

Absolutely disgraceful customer service on multiple occasions. I had been going to this restaurant for a couple years and decided to let go the incidences that had occurred every time until the latest one where I decided I will never go back. I arrived with 2 other friends, after being seated, we ordered 3 main dishes and were told this wasn't enough food and that we should just order takeaway and not waste a (2 seater table) despite there being 3 of us. We wanted to stay so we ordered another 2 dishes, yet this still wasn't good enough and again were told to get takeaway. Being naive and hungry.. we accepted this, waited for our takeaway and ate our dinner at the park. Another time, I ordered their frozen dumplings to pick up and make at home. When I went to pay, the server said I could only pay with cash. I told her I didn't have cash and that I've always paid with card here, and she told me to walk down king st to the ATM (which charges a fee) to withdrawal only $10. After telling her I wouldn't do this, she rolled her eyes increased the price on the card machine by $3 to allow me to use my card. Last time I checked, businesses are not allowed to profit from a surcharge fee. Another time, I came with 3 other friends for dinner. We had nearly finished our food and the server came over asking if we were finished. We said no and she asked again 5 minutes later, we still hadn't finished. She then came over and crudely dumped the bill on our table and walked away. When we finished we walked up to the counter to pay and the eftpos machine was presented to us. The owner had sneakily made the price $10 MORE than what was on the original bill, thinking we would just tap without noticing. When we told her this was not the same price as the bill, she said we had more than one drink so we had to pay for more glasses. As this is a BYO restaurant we understood we had to pay for glasses but not more than one each. When we refused to pay she started to verbally abuse us saying we stayed in her restaurant for too long. I looked around and there were many empty tables.. I told her she cannot treat customers like this and that every time I would come there would be an issue. She replied with "I don't care, then why do you come?". I told her I like to support small businesses and that their food was good, but not worth how you get treated so I will never come back. Appalling, not to mention ILLEGAL customer service. Such a shame as this was one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in newtown/enmore. I suggest going to Chinese noodle house in Haymarket if you'd like similar and BETTER food and don't feel like being...

As a frequent diner at this establishment, last night has changed that forever and I will never go back. The service here is one of the worst in Sydney. Last night, my friends and I (group of 3) ordered salt & pepper tofu, a dish I have had before, along with other dishes but when it came out - not one of us could eat it. It was so awfully salty, we could not even swallow it. We advised the waitress that the dish was inedible, politely, and she simply took the plate away and left. We continued eating our other dishes and then 15 minutes later the waitress came back with another plate. After we had finished eating. We advised her that we did not want a replacement dish, thank you but we were done eating. None of us wanted it after tasting the horrible one. As I have gone up to pay, I see the tofu is still on the bill. I advised that we could not eat the dish, and it was returned - please take it off the bill. Very nicely. Then the Manager comes over and says “No. you have to pay for it. We all tried it. It was fine. The chef tried it and there was nothing wrong with it. He ate it. We served it all night. No one else had a problem. Just you. And we made you a new one. You ordered. You pay.” I stated nicely, that we would have declined the new one if that had been communicated. It just put us off. She said “if you don’t like salt & pepper tofu with salt, ask for less salt.” She was so rude and was making such a huge scene, everyone was staring, the chef came out from the kitchen - it was horrifying, I just ended up paying so we could leave. It was never about the money, the dish was $20. There was 3 of us. We all work in the service industry and we were all absolutely shocked at the behaviour. If I could give this place a zero - I would. This is exactly what happened. Ruined the whole mood for the evening. I actually am still very shocked at her behaviour. Save yourself the trouble, go elsewhere. We will never,...
