Look I’m going to be fair and honest. I’ve been having butter for almost 4 years now and for the majority of that time I’ve enjoyed what they did. The vibe was cool, the chicken was tasty especially their batter, the chips were addictive and the sauce was the cherry on top. But for the past year they have been lacking the quality I expected from them, and i held back from writing a bad review but enough is enough. Every time we order online there’s ALWAYS something missing, ALWAYS a sauce pack missing every single bloody time, sides missing and one time a whole box of chicken missing (and mind you these are not cheap). And a minor note they have changed their Laces (chips) to a more thicker fries which is not as good. Now I’ve neglected those complaints because I don’t want to be a Karen but this time it’s insane. They have increased their prices AND reduced the size portions for example their Asian greens which is now $9.50 for a tiny container which used to be at least double the portion. Make it make sense???! I’ve just picked up my order and again it was missing items. It’s the consistent disappointment that has made me write this up, even though time and time again we’ve been supporting them. IF YOU ARE ORDERING ONLINE WHETHER ITS THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE OR UBEREATS etc. ORDER AT YOUR OWN RISK. Edit: it’s been over a year and still they be missing your sauces!

What an amazing experience. Upon entry, we were greeted by a happy and excited young French man who was all too keen to assist and make sure we were taken care of. I scanned the QR code to order and he said don’t worry about that. I’m here to look after you. He sure did. Kept checking in to see if all is ok, if we wanted extra sauce etc. legend. The fried chicken and donut hit every emotion and taste bud. The donut was a warm pillow, soft, sweet, and delicious, with crispy, yet juicy fried chicken atop. Complemented with a drizzle of maple. This was a match made in heaven. What a combo. 10/10. Chicken tenders were well portioned and equally crispy, flavourful and juicy. 10/10. Last but not least was the OG burger and fries. Again, well portioned, crispy, juicy well seasoned chicken thigh. Buns weren’t too big or thick and the cheese with the sauce was on point. Fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. 10/10. We loved everything about butter Sydney and can’t wait to come back for more. Nice atmosphere and music. Thank you for a 10/10 experience.

Chicken was decent in my sandwich but true to their name, the bun was absolutely soaked in butter. A bit too rich for my tastes, and with no greens and only a little bit of pickle to balance out the richness it proved too much. The laced up fries with Japanese sauce, mayo and bonito flakes was like takoyaki but with fries instead of octopus balls. They were way too heavy handed on the sauce and my fries ended up being drowned in sweet sticky brown sauce. The servings were generous but they had to be at 30 dollars for a burger and fries (no drink). The atmosphere was very hip, like eating inside a night club. 450 dollar bottles of champagne and Hennessy to complete the illusion. They were also going for a sneaker shop feel, serving chicken in shoe boxes and autographed kicks on display. this place is ambitious and I can see why people like it, very cool and Instagram friendly but I wish their food was better and prices softer.

Such an unfortunate encounter with a rude staff person that completely ruined the atmosphere and lunch experience. My best mate and I went into the Surry Hills establishment only to be greeted by a disgruntled staffer who didn’t even do the bare minimum of welcoming us properly. He was on his phone and failed to direct us to our seats, which we just found ourselves. There was no one present at this venue, so the lack of help was outlandish. Then, this rude staffer proceeded to tell us to “order at the counter” with a rather arrogant tone and frustration in his voice, to our surprise. Without even properly guiding us with the full information that their QR code system was not working and that the menu was also at the counter, we sat down and he again began to give us his bad attitude and told us to “order at the counter” becoming more frustrated at us, when he himself is not giving us proper information. We understood that we have to “order at the counter”, however nothing about the menu was mentioned. We planned to check out the menu with the QR system and then “order at the counter”. We were totally confused from the get-go at this person’s bad attitude and tone. It was such a shame as we were really looking forward to eating here as Butter as it is one of our favourite franchises, but due to this poorly trainer staffer, we decided to exit and find somewhere else to eat. Whoever looks after this restaurant needs to address this person’s behaviour as they had an extremely sour attitude with zero customer service training. We hope no one else has to ever experience such a horrid presence from this person. I hope they were not the manager, because that would be totally tragic. Please have a serious talk to this staff to treat everyone with respect or they should be shown the door ASAP. We simply just walked in and was greeted with a bad attitude. Such a simple task that is their main priority on the food chain franchise. The positivity just flew right out of our day the moment we encountered this, dare I say, gremlin, as that is what their...

I've been to Butter many times and have always had a good experience - unfortunately last night was not one of them. We have a friend from out of town and we wanted to get a feed after a late night event and wanted to take them to Butter!

At 10:30pm, I called the mobile number listed on google to ask what time the kitchen closed since they’re advertised as closing at midnight on Saturday nights. The gentleman on the phone told me the kitchen closes as 11:30pm - which was perfect. We arrived at about 10:55pm and were greeted by a staff member behind the bar who looked bothered that we stepped foot in the business. We said we were keen for a feed and he said the kitchen closes soon and by the time we get our food they’ll be closed – which was confusing at first. So we ordered swiftly, but when our friend asked the staff member their thoughts on “Coleslaw vs Asian Greens” because he couldn’t decide, he was greeted with “It’s up to you ... I don’t know, I’m not the one who has to eat it” with a scoff – which is a disgusting way to respond to a patron. You’d think someone that works there could provide some insight to the dishes they serve?? A simple “if you like mayo then coleslaw, but if you like pak choy then get the greens”.

We received our food in a take-away bag and started eating it as there were still patrons inside and the trading hours said midnight. But at 11:20pm we were booted out of the venue because “they closed 20 minutes ago” and “our license blah blah blah”. I was so embarrassed that our friend had a subpar experience at a place we raved on and on about.

Maybe the staff were keen for an early mark?? Perhaps they need to update the operating hours online, or get their facts straight before telling people on the phone the kitchen closes at 11:30pm.

The food itself is delicious, but unfortunately with experiences like this, it leaves a feral taste in the mouth....
