For your health and safety, DO NOT book this “hotel”. I recently book this place through my company travel portal, which recommended me this hotel as the first suggestion around Surry Hills for 2-night.
This hotel has been the worst experience of my life. The number of issues upon arrival: The bar and restaurant downstairs, that you have to sign an agreement waiver upon arrival that you will accept the noise. The dirty and ancient lobby, hallways and general environment. The horrible scent the whole hotel floor had, that stayed on my clothes throughout the day after I left.
Then leading into the room, the state of the room was horrific: Again the scent migrated into the room. A door without adequate security measures, noting my door only had the handle to secure access with no additional locks. Where other guests may easily break in if they choose to. The chain lock was removed, which is an extreme concern for a solo female traveler. The mold-covered shower head has no light inside the shower area. See pictures, it was inexcusable how this room is offered as a viable hotel room. The sink that was clogged. I washed my hands immediately after walking through the hotel, and the sink drain was blocked. I could no longer use the sink at that point. The uncomfortable bed and lack of airflow in the room.
I did end up staying one night and immediately checking out the morning as it was too late and difficult to migrate at the time. During the night, I could not sleep due to the security concern that my room could be easily breached, even with my attempted to block the doorway with a chair and towels to secure the handle.
The lady at checkout was very sincere and polite in my response when I explained my reasoning for an early checkout.
Please see the pictures and let that judge for yourself if you would be willing to book here.
UPDATE: the hotel did contact me after my stay and was very open and sincere in my feedback, which I do...
Read more5 amazing years has gone by that all my family, work and friends have experienced Hotel Harry. Tonight was going to be an experience like never before. My partner and my 2 friends arrived for a drink around 8pm and some dinner. I ventured to the bar to find the most amazing friendly staff. Suddenly a man with blonde hair and a false smile quickly came up to me to alert me that one of my friends in the group was showing the signs. I asked what was the sign and he could not respond to me. $160 in food was ordered and we ventured down to our table to eat and drink. the fake blond man with the smile informed me after my order that we could stay but then afterwards we would have to move on. I just kept thinking of this amazing place of everyone having fun, smiling and having a good time. Unfortunately that was not the agenda for the security team. My partner soon left after dinner and exited the hotel to find a taxi, my friend ran out to him to say good bye, he was soon told that he could not enter as he was showing the signs. When we kindly ask what the signs were, the sarcastic security man that seemed so sarcastic could not even respond. What happened to this amazing local of great people and ambiance. Did we harm anyone ? NO. Were we causing trouble ? NO. Funny enough there was a female bouncer at the door that just keep dancing and smiling. A real person living the dream and just kept being herself. However her work partner seemed to be one stuck up frustrated man. At the end of the day. our friends and I will never return, an investment of $200.00 turned to a joke where we were told that we were showing the signs. What is Sydney coming too ? Our heart and thoughts go out to that sad man patrolling the doors. At 8.40pm on a Sunday 4 people walked in wanting to have an amazing time like always. This was not going to be the case. Absolutely speechless to what can be an...
Read moreShocking staff. Never stepping foot in this place again. I am in disbelief at the carelessness of the staff and lack of communication between them. Sydney has a lock out where you cannot enter certain places after 1:30am & Harpoon Harry’s is a part of that. After leaving and realising I had left my phone inside after 1:30am the security couldn’t let me back in which I understood, however when I asked them to go back & get it after telling them where it was they refused - & for no reason!? They literally kept my property from me for no reason - I consider that theft. They even found it and still refused. They made me come back the next day to get it. Thank god I was with other people because I had to ask them to help me get home. The worst part is I went in the next morning to get it and the lady at reception had no idea what I was talking about & said there was nothing she could do, so I began to search for it for about 20 minutes by my self when the vicinity had a handful of customers & no staff even offered to help. Fortunately I work close by and went to my work & used my coworkers find my iPhone app - thank god the app has an option to activate a sound on your phone, I did that and went back into harpoon Harry’s hoping to hear anything close to a clue, only to immediately hear it right behind the reception desk. I am absolutely appalled the security didn’t pass the message to morning staff. Especially considering they are a hotel with guests that I am sure often lose things in that building. They caused me a great amount of inconvenience and I don’t know if I would’ve found it had I used the find my iPhone app. It is a shame as I liked this place but I will never be going back...
