MISSY THE CAT RETURNS!
A stealth local - well worth a walk across the CBD when you get the urge for more than a middy. Perhaps it's down to new ownership, but I had completely overlooked The Hollywood for many, many years. As in, "how did this get here?!" Anyway, whatever The Hollywood may have been before, it's now a friendly, charming place with retro decor and a lot of architecturally interesting interior features. Great spot to brace yourself for the CBD, or recover from it when you're done.

We booked our wedding at the Hollywood Hotel and honestly we couldn't have picked a better place.
Ben and his team went above and beyond to make our day so special. Ben is a superstar and runs the venue like a well oiled machine. His staff are positive, friendly, and kept totally calm even when under the the pump.
I can't recommend this place enough if you are thinking of having a private party. Even if you are just in Surry Hills and you want a quiet drink or you want to attend a live gig.
This is a Sydney institution and in my opinion is the real heart and soul of the city.

Was rudely sassed by an older white queen for not buying a drink, immediately, on multiple occasions. Most notably as I was leaving, calling out across the bar to where I stood outside ‘You’re Welcome’ -after he had just missed me thanking another staff member for access to the space.
It’s really sad to think a refugee like the Hollywood could be so worn down by capitalist beuroocracy that they have lost their captivity for GENEROUS empathy. To all, and especially to their own.
