All Purpose Bakery has been doing pastry drops for a while now at Paramount coffee project and Reuben Hills and I’ve certainly done my share of driving to both for bread and pastries there. They’ve now opened up a cafe and bakery called AP House on the rooftop of Paramount House in Surry Hills next to the Paramount recreation centre. Head into the building, catch the lift to the top and you’ll find an open air urban space with white tables and chairs and greenery surrounds. We were there on a rainy day and the umbrellas protected us.
The bakery sells loaves of bread and pastries as well as dine in meals. The bread varietals include baguettes, country loaf, rye, spelt, barley and the one we purchased, a toasted sesame and burnt fenugreek loaf is amazing!! There’s also savoury pastries like ham and Gruyère croissants. Sweet wise, think canele and bombolini, buttermilk croissants and pain au chocolat. We try an incredible coconut and mango Danish with layers of crisp pastry. We recommend getting there early before they sell out.
You can also dine on their all day menu, whether it be their “lazy omelette” with potato and fried curry leaves. We order the “build your own breakfast” with eggs, pickles, toas and cured ham, as well as the “bakers breakfast”. This is complete with 2 boiled eggs, a hash brown, whipped cods roe, herb salad, pickle and baguette. The food here is fabulous and we love that you can build your own.
Drink wise, given AP House is owned by some big namers in the coffee industry, it’s hardly surprising that they’re using roasts from Reuben Hills. They’ve also got smoothies, juices, beer and wines.
AP addition is a great addition to the area and we look forward...

My friends and I had the pleasure of visiting A.P. House Bakery, and it was such a wonderful experience! The atmosphere was incredible, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing brunch. We definitely recommend going when it’s not raining, as the seating is primarily outdoors. However, if the weather isn’t ideal, you can always check out the downstairs café, Paramount Coffee Project.
I ordered a large cappuccino and the Turkish eggs with garlic bread, and let me tell you—it was to die for! Hands down, one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. The pastries were also remarkable, with a great selection to choose from.
The customer service was lovely, adding to the overall positive experience. One minor downside, though, is the restroom situation. In the upstairs area where A.P. Bakery is located, there’s only one female/disability bathroom, while men have a dedicated restroom. If you need to use the main women’s restroom, you have to go all the way down to the lower floor, down a hallway, and to the very end, which is quite inconvenient, especially since the café is three levels up. Meanwhile, men have restrooms on both levels, which is more convenient for them.
That said, this small inconvenience didn’t overshadow our overall experience. The setting was beautiful, and the pastries were exceptional. We highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to enjoy fantastic food and a...
Read moreAP was good, if not a bit busy. I can understand the hype. I met some friends here I hadn’t seen in a while to catch up on a beautiful Saturday morning.
My friends got here a little early and put their name down for a table. They quoted 30 mins for a table which was reasonable given the queue of people waiting. The atmosphere and vibe was really nice as it was a sunny morning; AP is located on Level 2 in the hotel at this location (you need to take a lift up). The seating area itself is outside on a patio/veranda with some coverings to protect you from the sun. We were grateful they didn’t cram in so many tables and there was ample room in between us and the tables around us.
Price was a bit on the expensive side, but the quality of everything was really good, so i’m glad to pay it. Expect to pay about $18-20 for a main dish and $6-10 for a baked item. I got a long black and it was fine. I really enjoyed the twice-baked croissant with hazelnut (Not pictured).
My crispy bacon sandwich was really good, and had a considerable amount of bacon, which was, as you’d expect, quite crispy. Like American-style crispy. The potato bread was top notch. The sandwich also contained hot sauce which was a great compliment to the sweetness of the rest of the baked goods my friends and I were sharing at the table.
All in all, this place was really good and, as I mentioned, I can understand the hype. I would come back again next time I want to...
