Lovely spot in a gorgeous location. Stumbled across it, passing through. Busy, warm public holiday but young female staff were doing a fantastic job. Friendly, polite, helpful. Service was fast. The male (presumably the owner / Manager) was a blip on what would have been a perfect visit. When we arrived all tables were full. We were only ordering coffees, frappes, cakes so we thought no problem, we will grab a takeaway. Per chance while we were waiting on food, a small table opened up so we grabbed it. 4 of us, around a 2 person table. The entire time we sat eating / drinking (maybe 10 mins), this male tried to move us on. “Are you waiting on food?” No mate. We were eating it. He kept hovering, returning before finally telling us (while we were still consuming our drinks) that takeaway orders would be called “over there.” Huh? I might point out we spent over $50 for that 10 mins we sat at his tiny table. When we passed by on our way out there were multiple parties of 2 taking up tables of 4-6. Hoping they ordered enough to keep him happy. Thinks girls for being a shining beacon of light in what would otherwise have been a completely unwelcoming visit. Coffees etc were...

In the 70's I cut my teeth learning to surf( & survive! ) at Long Reef & primarily at The Bomie but the left at the Butter Box was a challenge for those with a stronger skill set. Eventually I surfed it with confidence tho I wouldn't say 'mastered'. There was the old concrete club house & dunnies & a bit of a car park. Fast forward 50 years & Long Reef's old club house is gone AND the stinky old dunnies. Cafe Butter Box has now replaced same & whatta transformation. Beautifully designed facilities all tucked away in a very....?...private, personal space that you feel is, for some reason, really yours for the time you're there. A great range of hot n cold food items, excellent coffee & and ambient, comfortable design and layout you just fall into. It ain't posh, it's local, it's sort've hidden & for a few precious moments when you want to get outta the rush or reflect on that last wave, Butter Box says to...

Disappointing

Extremely disappointing .

Great venue. New premises. Relaxed atmosphere .

Looking forward to enjoying lunch and a cup of coffee.

Coffee was expensive. There are many family owned well established cafes in exclusive positions with high rents who pay their staff fairly and still charge a reasonable price for extremely great coffee.

Had fish and chips and my friend had calamari. Paid $8 extra for a piece of fish which I thought was good value.

Meals came-- two boxes - loaded with chips and a few slithers of fish. An extra $8 for an extra slither of fish. Outrageous. The other box was loaded with chips and 6 pieces of calamari. Basically, paying for boxes of chips. Exorbitant.

Over promises, under delivers and...

Waited 20 minutes for a bacon and egg roll. $13.25 with weekend surcharge which is pretty average but so was the food. Unfortunately not worth the wait. To clarify, I’m not saying I have an issue with weekend surcharges but if you’re going to ask for more money then the food should already be up to a good standard. There are far better bacon and egg rolls in the area at this price. If that’s hard to comprehend then I suggest researching the competition. I also had to wait 20 minutes, that’s one thing if the staff let you know when ordering but they didn’t. I stand by the score, if anything I’m being generous with three stars.
