Have been coming here for at least 10 years (back in the day where Mr.Martini!lol! Closed the curtains and partied through the night) have definitely had over 1000 coffees and enjoyed 100's of brekky's. They offer a solid selection of all day brekky and lunch options. Nothing too fancy, just every day food at reasonable prices. Sadly, our fave fun-loving blonde boy barista went and worked next door, a few years back (miss him). Amongst all the fancy tumeric lattes and deconstructed breakfasts popping up in other trendy Newtown cafes, I and the locals absolutely love that in 10+ years the menu has pretty much stayed the exact same! Have to laugh, new owner un-did so many of the great things the cafe were known for: music posters, cool art, relaxed chairs and feel. He made it cold, in-welcoming, hygienic, homogenous and locals stopped coming. Myself included. Many customers started going to the cafe, Flour drum next door after that. Thankfully, he's recently learnt the lesson (perhaps the hard way, not sure) and has started to return the place to its roots...so if you were scared off, you'll probably like that the posters and art are back to the way they were before he owned it:) Staff are not the most attentive...new generation youngsters I suppose. Just drop the expectations and go up and ask for what you're after, otherwise you may be waiting a while! When you do, they're...
Read moreI recently visited Martini Newtown for breakfast and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. Despite being one of the few cafes open on New Year's Day, the service and food quality left much to be desired. We had to wait for a long time before we were even served water for the table. The coffee was weak and mediocre, lacking any distinct flavor. To make matters worse, there were unpleasant kitchen smells of off cooking oil permeating the air.
When our meals finally arrived, they were a letdown. The mushrooms were tired and the toast was soggy. The bacon had no flavor and the avocado, no matter how much salt and pepper we added, was simply not enjoyable to eat. We left the cafe with our plates still half full, feeling unsatisfied and disappointed. The taste and texture of the food lingered in our mouths, leaving a negative impression that makes it difficult to consider Martini as a breakfast...
Read moreDon't come here if you have kids. Had our 4 kids that were all sitting and talking and laughing amongst themselves waitress came over asking us if we wanted takeaway which should have been the first red flag after she took our order she came back over stating the owner asked since we have kids if we could be more quiet. I'm the first to know if my kids are being loud and they weren't at all. Should have a sign on the door saying no kids welcome. As a family and people of colour I wonder if this is the norm. Made us extremely uncomfortable and was honestly a horrible experience. Wished we didn't order we left immediately. Food was not on par with any other cafes around. Terrible service and even worse experience. As locals will never ever...
