I like Nepali people and food but Cafe Talk wasn't very impressive... Infact it was disappointing. I wanted Mountain Tea but the waitresses said it "takes too long to make"?
My GF noticed wine on the board but when she asked what kind of wines were available the answer was "only beer"?
We ordered Momo Platter, Chicken Chow Mein and Chhoela. The momo's were OK but not as good as Nepali restaurants in Hurstville.
The chicken Chow Mein was a crispy overcooked calamity and the Chhoela was how can I say? Death on a plate served cold! The waitress forewarned it was a spicy dish which was appreciated. I decided to take the risk and ended up with a belly of regret. The entire Chhoela was cold which I assumed is how it's served traditionally but fark me it was the most sinister cold and slow creeping pain no human should experience. Kinda like a Nepalese Yeti in my mouth scratching my throat with claws dipped in century old Chilli oil.
The atmosphere was OK however a bit of a noise clash with accoustic RnB covers coming from the restaurant speakers and Nepalese Rock blaring from the kitchen.
Next time Im in the mood for Nepali food I'll go to Mirchi Kogarah, Hurstville or Rockdale. Should be called Cafe Walk cause once you walk in and try the food you'll want to walk out and never go back. 2 stars cause the momo's were sub par and to be fair it was late and overpacked... Maybe too much pressure to handle for the minimal staff on hand? One things for sure I ain't ever gonna eat Chhoela ever again, I got love for my Neppa's but that...
Read moreWe visited cafe talk for dinner today . Its about 5 mins from kogarah station . Slight away from the busy part. Its a small place with approx 40 ppl capacity. Over all i’d say the food is pretty decent and tasty 😋 😋 Lightning, outlook and atmosphere can definitely be improved.
For dinner we had;
Laphing with spicy sauce and wai wai comments; we found it a bit too spicy and could not finish. Definitely not an entrée you want to start off with as it does ruin your palates. 🥵
Buff chilly was really awesome loved the texture crunchiness and sauce was perfect 🤤🤤
Bhuttan was also fantastic. The portion was small but understandable. 2nd place i have been in Sydney with decent taste for this dish. Well done 🤤🤤
Buff momo was average but the pastry is hand made. Will be going back to taste other types of momo as it has some potential
Buff Chowmein was also average i must say but after eating all the spicy dishes will revisit this at...
Read more2 stars for momo platter. Everything else we tried was either unremarkable or way too hot that it's almost inedible. The chhoela was served cold with rice "flakes" that reminded me of rice bubbles. The chicken "chow mein" was forgotten about and it only arrived after we followed up on it. Should've just let that one slide. It was more like a Nepalese take on Singaporean noodles with crispy fried chicken bits and tiny pieces of carrots and capsicum. I tried to order the mountain tea but was told it would take too long to make?? So I asked what kind of wines they had as I saw "wine" on the board behind me but there wasn't any? So we just stuck to table water to swallow the mediocre chow mein and almost inedible chhoela. What a horrible experience. Why people line up for this place I will never understand but one thing's for sure, we will...
