I was walking past this beautiful looking cafe in Kogarah last week and considering i hadn't eaten breakfast i thought it looked like a nice place place to grab a bite to eat.
I ordered a large skim flat white for a coffee and bacon + poached eggs on toast for something to eat.
When the coffee arrived i was very pleasantly surprised. the coffee was strong in flavor and served hot.
Unfortunately i was disappointed with the bacon and eggs. Firstly the bacon served was beef bacon. it was thick, rubbery and tasted pretty gross, the bacon served was inedible. I complained about the flavor at which point they advised me that it was beef bacon, i was disappointed as I wasn't informed that it was beef bacon when i ordered the food. I tried to put the "Bacon" to the side and try to just eat the eggs. Unfortunately the poached eggs tasted like they were cooked in a bowl of vinegar, these were also inedible.
Although the coffee was really nice the food was a massive let down for me. I will not be going back to Memento Cafe unless they...
Read moreWas looking for a decent bite that wasn’t too heavy and decided to get a burger here with my niece. Grabbed a memento burger, while my niece had eggs on toast - wasn’t expecting too much but was blown away with the burger. Similarly, my niece devoured her eggs on toast, and we were both extremely satisfied with the quality of both dishes. What impressed me the most, however, was the genuineness of the staff - having noticed my niece enjoying my chips (which were perfectly seasoned with oregano salt), they promptly brought her a small serving (no extra charge) saying, “can’t have you eating all his chips!”. Then when another couple ended up having to leave just as their order came out, the staff insisted to refund their money, even though it wasn’t their fault and would have been a loss on their part - they ended up storing the meal for the couple to pick up when they were able to. My faith in humanity...
Read moreA rustic looking place a short walk down from Kogarah station, Memento cafe is full of old items and deteriorating polaroids, antiques, the toilet sink from your grandpa's 80 year old house and even an organ that's falling apart and covered in dry rose petals.
We ordered the cheese burger with mustard and home made tomato ketchup. Its one damn tasty burger but was let down slightly with the inconsistent juiciness through the patty. Still a great burger!
The polo chicken was HUGE! layers of mushrooms, gravy, chicken and a whole avocado mixed the flavours well. Both meals came with delicious thick cut chips.
The coffee was good and a perfect temperature. A little bitter but that was from the blend. The serving portions are huge. The staff are very friendly and attentive laughing at us taking photos. Its one of the few cafes open after 2pm on a Saturday in Kogarah. Well...
