Sumbaijai is a popular Thai restaurant in Kogarah, especially for office and medical workers around the area. If you’re not sure, go straight to the very last page of Sumbaijai Thai street food. There, you’ll find a selection of fried rice, stir-fry noodles, and noodle soups. Everything was so tempting but we went straight to our familiar options, which were fried rice with cured pork or “name” in Thai (or “nem” in Vietnamese); and chicken pad see-ew. The food that came with generous servings was surprisingly delicious. Make sure you ask for “chilli”/ or any of the ingredients listed below, they’ll bring you a whole cart of vinegar, dried chilli flakes, fish sauce, soy sauce, and sugar. I feel like most people are missing out on this. It was a very pleasant experience as we immediately fell in love with the cleanliness of this place. On my subsequent visits, I tried out their noodles soup which was mediocre. I dislike the red curry which was overly sweet.

Restaurant is ok but disappointed with "bbq beef crying tiger" dish. This dish as every Thai knows is famous because of the way the beef is cooked - BBQed. As seen in the pic the beef is clearly not BBQed but instead I got just the standard beef they'd throw into soup and other noodle dishes with garnish and sauce included. This is just a lazy attempt at this dish. They can bbq in many ways, over gas, electric bbq if they really can't do charcoal bbq in the shop. When politely asking the lady at the cashier she tried to tell me that it's grilled in the pan....hardly the way this dish is cooked in Thailand and every other thai restaurant I visited in Sydney. Either change menu picture and description to "beef with vegetables and spicy sauce" or don't be lazy and cook it properly.

An overall average dining experience. The service was very slow because they were prioritising take-away orders. Which is incredibly frustrating when they order upto 10 mins after you do! The soft shell crab was very disappointing and you could definitely do a better job buying your own from a supermarket and cooking them at home. Pad Prih King Chicken was nice just a little too spicy. The coconut rice was gluggy. However the Duck Curry made up for all of these other dishes. Incredibly well cooked, duck pieces were very generous and the flavour was memorable. Service was incredibly friendly. Pricing is pretty good.

Minus star if possible. NOT RECOMMENDED. Save your time and money and enjoy authentic Thai food across the road, O-CHA.

The whole quality of the food has deteriorated badly. We ordered a few signature dishes, including crying tiger, tom yum chicken, som tum pu pla ra, coconut rice, fried ice cream, and soft shell crab.

The crying tiger supposed to be BBQ beef, but it came out as steamed/ boiled beef slice, tough. When questioned, the staff 'replaced' it with adding more 'sauce' which made the whole thing salty without any sight of BBQ. Didn't finish the dish beyond a small piece.

Tom yum chicken was acceptable, but I won't order it again.

Som Tum Pu Plara, papaya salad with anchovies, taste good, but the spice level was extreme even though I asked for mild. One bite caused me to tears and runny nose. I am asian who is used to spicy.

Coconut rice was supposed to be cooked in coconut milk, not mixed with it. The rice we were served was like dessert because the rice was mixed with coconut milk/cream. I think I know what coconut rice supposed to be. I'd rather be told that it was not available than being served something inedible.

Fried ice cream, never served. When gave some comments on food, the staff became rude and unpleasant.

Overall, this is a horrible experience. I will never return to this place. Not...
