I have been going to Kingsgrove Charcoal chicken for over 20yrs. The flavour and quality hasn’t changed from the original Greek owners. Great value from a hard working family run business.
Edited 10/01/2025: Went today with the new owners operating the shop during lunchtime. What a disappointing experience. Tried ordering 3 1/4 chicken and chip packs and the young guy attempted to put the last 3 legs into a chicken bag. When I asked that I needed them in individual packs, another older worker came and took the last 3 legs and put them in a bag. The chicken size is smaller and the prices have increased. I was then told that it would be a 15 minute wait for chicken and expected me to pay and wait. The store had one person waiting but it seemed like a lack of organisation and communication between staff that made service a shamble. Apart from chicken and salads, there were no other extras like chicken sticks, fried rice or baked veg…. It saddens me that the latest owners are screwing this long time business with poor service and cost cutting strategies. I noticed the that they have used gap filler on the front display counter where the salads are. They didn’t even have the decency or pride to apply the filler cleanly, it looks like someone just used their finger to smudge it along the gap. If that’s the effort they put into maintaining the shopfront, imagine the lack of care behind the scenes that we can’t see. This place has survived for so many years due to its friendly service, tasty food and reasonable prices. This latest owner is getting greedy and will get a rude shock when they loose customers like myself and others that knew what Kingsgrove charcoal was like and why we supported David...
Read moreIt looks and feels like Kingsgrove charcoal chicken shop has been there forever. With a loyal clientele base, its not unusual to have to queue for chickens in this tiny takeaway store.
The smell alone that wafts in your car window as you drive around looking for a park , is encouragement enough to get there quick before all the chickens run out, a situation that we have encountered on a couple of occasions.
The chickens are moist and tender with the meat falling from the bone. Juicy flesh is just held together by sticky skin and the colour of the meat is a delightful creamy white.
We always order 2 chickens for the 4 of us, as chicken rolls for lunch the next day are a must do!

Read moreOk lets be honest here guys. This chicken shop is owned by a lovely gentleman who's not the nicest of fellas. But he does offer old school homemade burgers which isn't bad at all. Taste pretty fresh and goes down well with the nicely salted chips. The guy also offers free homemade chilli sauce. He used to charge 1.50 for the sauce but now its free. At the end of the day the blokes always in a bad mood but the burgers ain't bad. I haven't tasted the chicken and neither would I. The tall guy there is also a bit of a character but I would go back. It was fun witnessing the commotion while eating my burger. See...
