While I keep hearing that this place is supposed to be pretty good, I've been living in Wahroonga for a couple of months now and I've picked up food from here a couple of times.
To be honest, I don't think it's very good, considering the prices. Some of the staff are alright, but the guy that usually serves me really doesn't come across as very welcoming.
I like butterflied Portuguese chicken and if you like it too, you would be much better off buying one of these from Woolworths (something new they are doing). They taste amazing and are half the price. Personally, I am quite disappointed with the food I have been eating from Chargrill Charlies. The chicken we had tonight seemed as if it was anorexic, and very tough. The sauces are absolutely not what I am ever expecting and I don't feel that the flavors compliment the chicken in any way. The salads are decent, but be sure to ask for extra dressing, because they are pretty stingy with it.
Overall... meh......
Read moreThought I would order using the Chargrill Charlies app. The app takes your payment immediately and tells you your order will be ready in 15 minutes. It then sends you a message to say order will be ready shortly and to go to the contactless area for collection. Unfortunately when you arrive to collect there is no signage to say where that is on the counter, there are many people waiting around and the staff are busy serving, the number attached to my order on the app is not of the same sequence as the numbers being called out for service - all very confusing! Food good but a terrible process that naturally gets people on edge and spoils the experience. Recommendation - don’t use app to order but take a ticket in shop, join the throng on the street, and wait in turn to be served in the shop..can take a long time unfortunately when store is busy! No way of knowing in advance how long you will have to wait on street...
Read moreI eat there maybe 3-5 times a year. I live nearby. Their chicken both normal and peri peri/split is outstanding. The place is always packed in the early evening as all the goldigger wives need to find something to "cook" for their kings. During lunchtime, early arvo all the Knox and Abbottsleigh school kids are milling around, as are tradies who are doing reno's on the millionaire's houses. Their salads are great and generous, and good variety and really fresh, and also the curries, and lamb shanks. Their Schnitzels are excellent, and the potato wedges are really great. Their Peri Peri sauce is superb. It isn't cheap to get a feed, but the quality and service is excellent. Cheap if you are a local affluent CEO that lives here. Never had a bad experience. Can be a little bit cramped ordering around dinner time there, but everyone behaves well etc. It is an absolute "institution" here...
