We have dined many times at Chiswick Woollahra and always enjoyed the ambience, food and service always leaving feeling relaxed and enjoying our time at this beautiful restaurant (living in Wollongong there is nothing that comes close to this amazing restaurant). We had recommended to go to lunch with friends and thought we would spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon at the restaurant (i mean what a way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon right!) Upon arrival there was a wedding outside and later guests were then seated in part of the restaurant that was sectioned off and the guests were very civilised in their noise level and it looked to be a very peaceful reception. There was a further function (i think another wedding - not too sure) that was in the main dining area. The instant they sat down the noise level escalated to a level that was very uncomfortable and you could not even hear each other or the waiter and or vice versa. Through no fault of the Chiswick its just low celings small confined dining area but not great or as we had expected it to be. (All attention from the wait staff was predominatly focusing on this function, as i feel the service was not as good yesterday as previously experienced). You could see other patrons were also bothered by the noise, thus either leaving or i think may be requested to sit outside. Our friends ended up wanting to leave earlier than expected as they both had headaches from the noise of the patrons in the party which to me was a very dissapointing outcome as we had mentioned how much we loved going there many times to them. Hopefully something can be done so this does not affect other patrons in the future, as we will be requesting outside seating in future or choosing another restaurant for catching up...

Goodbye

We’ve been going to Chiswicks for special occasions for many many years. We even hosted our daughter’s wedding lunch there. We were huge fans. So here we are a week before Xmas and we’re off to Chiswicks, one of our fine dining restaurants for lunch. Great way to end the year. Well …not quite.

My husband ordered the steak medium rare ($94) and it arrived literally raw, seriously it was blue. We pointed this out to the waiter and she insisted on replacing it. The second steak arrived and it was no different. It was blue. We didn’t want it to spoil our celebration so we decided to take most of it home and cook it properly for dinner! After all, it was $94 for a small to medium sized steak. Yes it’s hard to believe, particularly because the chef did not know, evidently, how to cook it…twice no less. Also, some feedback about the accompanying salad which in years past had various leaves and micro herbs from the onsite garden. This time, we were given a bland plate of leaves consisting of only one type of lettuce with no herbs, or sweet edible flowers… which sadly was also insufficiently dressed. There was no love on that plate. The chips were nice but such a stingy offering. We ordered 2 glasses of sparkling wine and they were not poured from the bottle, so really after the overall experience, who knows what we got. I have to say though, the wait staff were great. They were very understanding and even comped us a dessert to share. The room as always is lovely. Regardless and sadly, we won’t be returning to what used to be our favourite restaurant. Just can't support this kind off blatant gouging...ouch. This review is done in hope that the restauranteur, will potentially do better. Where Matt Moran...

After receiving an e-marketing invite to Chiswick for their July special Sunday Roast and Jazz night, myself and three friends did not hesitate to book. From the reservation to paying the bill, it was not the usual experience we have come to expect from Chiswick. The "$65 per head roast pork dinner with jazz from 4:30 pm" on the initial email ended up being incorrect. It took three attempts to book a table and after contacting the restaurant directly, we were advised there was an error with the details in the email.

Two friends are vegetarian so they ordered the 'vegetarian roast option' basically a big wedge of pumpkin with other vegetables. A lot of the vegetables were hard and unable to be cut with a knife. Two of us had a couple of glasses of Rose each and we opted for ice cream with the fruit galette instead of the clotted cream which was way too thick and over-whipped for a fruit pastry.

When the bill arrived, the cost per head was $75, not $65 - even the vegetarian dishes as opposed to roast pork with crackling - the Roses' were $18 per glass ($76 total) would have been more cost effective to order a bottle (this particular Rose is $36 a bottle in liquor stores) but unfortunately the bar staff didn't give us any options. The ice cream (one scoop) cost more than one of the drinks and the almost $45 surcharge turned this into a very expensive evening for a Sunday roast.

The music was nice, I wouldn't call it jazz.

We did discuss our concerns with the manager who wasn't overly interested but did waiver the surcharge. Thankfully our waitress was extremely attentive and lovely however overall, it was overpriced for what we...

Exceptional. Masterclass in hospitality. Fantastic service and knowledge of the menu/wine. Super friendly staff. My partner and I got the tasting menu for 2 (the chef was kind enough to accommodate us - its usual for 4 people). We had Reisling with oysters to kick off. Followed by the Barra-masalata, vegetable chips and Rosemary flatbread. The masalata is incredible. You need the flatbread to scoop up the rest of the masalata. The Kingfish crudo, tomato sofrito, olive this was fresh and zingy. Tasted just as good as it looked. We went for a bottle of the Maison Rigal french orange wine. Would buy again. Its crisp and not sweet. The lamb was exquisite. The mint and jus are a tremendous combo (leftovers packaged up and brought home for pitta pockets the next day). Herb mayo with the fries was delish. The winner was the braised field mushrooms, cabbage, macadamia. The flavour was like no other and truly unique. The macadamia works very well with cabbage. We finished with the Pavlova, burnt honey, Montenegro cream. At this stage we had devoured too much. Tasty but I would of went for the cheese board.

We love a weekend lunch with our children here. The shared Lamb shoulder or whole chicken with roast vegetables is a favourite. We enjoy the simple kitchen garden outside the image that those greens will soon be on our plate. And the hustle of the main kitchen which always somehow seems contained like a pot simmering but never boiling over! The restraint is what is most magic. At the same time this is one of the places to be seen in the scene in the Eastern suburbs society square dance! Beware of big hats, large sunglasses and overly sharp suits. 😎 The roads outside can be treacherous, Porsche Cayenne and BMW's at times can be found wandering the surrounding streets swerving as if unattended as their drivers attempt to apply makeup or take another Instagram worthy picture - hold on to your big hats people! 🏎 Despite all and possibly because of this, visit! For not only the show but also the delicious food and occasional alcohol weary socialite 😉

We had our wedding reception at Chiswick Woollahra in Nov and it did not disappoint. The food and service was exceptional on the day. Staff were amazing! Attentive and nothing was too much. The Events team (Bree) assisted in the lead up to our big day. They were helpful and made us feel at ease, however on some occasions they were slow to respond with communication. But we still had a very positive experience. Everything went smoothly on the wedding day and the in-house cake was gorgeous as well with flowers from the Chiswick garden. We provided the restaurant takeaway containers so our guests could take home some cake and they were more than happy to oblige. Our guests were blown away by the quality of the food and the lovely set up of the private room. Everything happened seamlessly. We often eat here for normal occasions. Great food and attentive service and a lovely atmosphere. You have to try the Barra-dip...it's so yum! Make sure you book🙂
