Culture Bean is located opposite Kogarah hospital so it’s always buzzing with visitors and public services staff. But equally you should pay this a visit for their beautiful brunch and lunch options that are as pretty as a picture. Its a small cafe but there is both indoor and outdoor seating available, we sat outside on a hot summers day and enjoyed the sunlight and shared a number of dishes and fresh drinks alongside our coffees. We tried the healthy açai smoothie as well as a banana smoothie with honey and coffees, which they use Gabriel’s brand. Eggs your way, avo on toast or the much loved Shakshuka, you’ll find your brekkie favourites on this menu. There’s also a granola bowl and a beautiful açai bowl for those looking for a healthy start. We shared a few dishes between us, opting for one healthy brekkie bowl, a savoury dish and and a sweet dish too. The brekkie bowl, filled with quinoa, mashed sweet potato, kale, roasted pumpkin and tomato, edamame, avo and topped with and egg and a lemon dressing was great for those who enjoy fresh healthy meals like me. We also had the eggs Benedict which looked beautiful and it was on top of some lovely charcoal toast. They were kind enough to adjust to bacon instead of salmon too. The crumpets by Merna Taouk were a hit. You can have them sweet with coconut yoghurt pistachio crumble and seasonal fruits or savoury with chorizo, bacon, harissa and labneh. We loved the sweet version of these. Order at the counter but the food is brought to your table. Staff are friendly and hospitable. The cafe was efficient with their service too.

Culture bean is one of the few pure hipster cafes in Kogarah. It offers small tables but the majority of the seating is outside. Many of the nurses from St. George Hospital come here for their coffee fix. We were lucky to get a table straight away, but expect a little wait as this place is always busy. You order at the counter so snag a table then send up one lone warrior to place the table's orders. We ordered the Culture Breakfast and the Eggs on Toast with a side of bacon (the bacon and egg sandwich had run out). Both were full of delicious flavours, but they were served a little cold. The plating and portion size are huge! For drinks we had coffee and a caramel milkshake. The soy latte was well prepared with no lumps, the piccolo had a good, strong flavour and the caramel milkshake was thick, sweet and creamy! This would easily be a 4/5 if not for the slightly cold food.

Culture Bean is one of my go-to local brunch spots because of… ✅ Great food - Fruity chilled açai with fresh fruit and a smashing granola was perfect for the warmer weather 🍓🍌 - Shakshuka was well-balanced with lovely spiced tomato, eggs, chorizo and a generous serving of sourdough on the side 🍅🍳 ✅ Attentive and friendly staff (who replaced our butter immediately after discovering it was liquid) & reasonably quick service during Saturday lunchtime 🙋🏻‍♀️⏱ ✅ Location - Lots of street parking or a short walk from Kogarah station 🚗🚶 ✅ Offers both indoor and outdoor seating! While tables are limited, there’s a good atmosphere for conversation 👥 .. So what’s not to love? 😍 We’ll be sure to come back! .. Further comments: We also ordered an iced almond latte & freezochino. My sister said the freezochino tasted like a coffee smoothie and could be improved by being colder.

CULTURE BEAN CAFE: This intimate and cozy cafe is located in the Kogarah, Gray street area, Its situated at the street corner, with small wooden tables and chairs for seats and has an extensive menu.  The service is quite good. This place is so good, that I've been there three times in under a month.  Each time we go, we always order the different assortments of bread.  Dish is seasoned with it's own spices and herbs which come out smelling amazing and appetizing, unlike other places that use the same seasoning for all dishes. Smashed Avo is my favourite thing... It comes with activated charcoal bread, avocado, mint, ricotta and fetta cheese, which makes for a heavenly delight.  The glazed cherry tomatoes are also very delectable and mouthwatering.  All the flavors are kept in while grilling. I have never came across this kind of activated charcoal bread in any of the cafes i have been to.  One of my new favorites is the Hot Mocha with dark chocolate to make it perfect breakfast. The rain was like Cherry on top.. Everytime we went there, it was raining, or it was cloudy weather which enhanced the beauty and was mood maker...😍 The prices are extremely reasonable compared to similar places...

Coffee is average, only convenient as it’s next to the hospital. Service experience was not so great. I ordered a ham cheese tomato croissant, they made me a toastie. I asked for a croissant again, and received attitude from the staff member. She also had the audacity to explain to me there’s a difference between a toastie and a croissant. If only I was as ignorant as she thought I was, cause then I wouldn’t have been so taken back by being blamed for their mistake. All one has to do is apologise and correct the mistake, no need to blame, finger point and give customers attitude.

The barista also asks you what you ordered, instead of calling out the orders to those waiting. Makes sense why they would do it in such an inefficient way as they don’t take names for takeaway orders, so the experience is also totally impersonal.

I have ordered from hundreds of cafes, but never have I felt the need to write a review about an experience. That says something about the feeling you get from ordering...
