We booked to see the entertainer Liam Cooper's King of the Keys tonight, Saturday night 27th September. We live in Manly and this was our 2nd visit to DWRSL approximately 3 years apart. There was 8 of us and we booked The Courtyard for dinner at 6.30pm. We did not expect the noise level associated with the band that was playing to be so loud we could not hear ourselves above the singing. We moved to an inner courtyard where we could have a conversation. We moved to the venue for Liam at 8.15pm for a 8.30pm start and sadly our table number 46 was the last table closest to the bar and next to the loudest, rudest bunch of inebriated people but then after all it is an RSL and these clubs are magnets for people with no concern for other patrons to enjoy the show. They talked loudly during the show when Liam was not singing but explaining the story behind the song. Many requests to be quiet were ignored and this forced them to become so much louder just to annoy the surrounding table. As a child of the 70's we love music of Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder however the entire night was spoilt by this bunch of Bogans. We approached security to ask them to consider not just our table but other surrounding tables and ask them to quieten the group down and respect the talent of Liam. Liam was singing 'Imagine' by John Lennon the lighting was set and it was supposed to be a very memorable experience for the audience but No, this didn't happen because the drunk bogans started singing loudly and completely disrupted the ambiance of the room and the song.
Where is your RSA DWRSL????
These people should not have been served alcohol as it was obvious that they were well and truly inebriated. We spoke to security that were positiond outside the venue. We only saw a security lady standing along the wall but at no time did she approach the table. Not only that the people lining up for drinks were loud and disruptive. Our evening was spoilt so we left at interval. On leaving I requested to speak to the manager that was on duty. We met with Hunter a very young manager who completely made excuses such as 'I have only just heard about this' and by the time he got there at Interval the group was quiet and the reason he could not have been there sooner was because he had other issues to attend to. Seriously, a club the size of DWRSL should have more than one manager on duty. Hunter's attitude was dismissive and to be honestly I felt that he thought here are 2 X 70 year olds complaining. Hunter did not give us the narrative that he understood why we were wanting to speak to him. There was no mention of any compensation as I would have declined as we will NEVER be back and I did tell him to his face that I will be posting a detailed review and he clearly did not care. I even said to him "I will tell 10 people and they will tell 10 people' I hope that the CEO of DWRSL reads this review and consider the patrons that paid for a night out and you clearly did not deliver and you need to address your security at the venue and the attitude of your...
Read moreI've been coming here for over 35 years absolutely love this place the staff and the food, however on " Christmas day 2024 " that all changed as myself & my daughter ate at the "Battery House" for the first time , as being Xmas the bistro where we normally eat was closed. I was served by the my rudest young girl I have ever come across ( "Jayme "the young girl with black glasses) as I was giving her my order for my food I kindly said to her I will have the chips and salad she then replied in the most rudest manner " It all comes with chips and salad" I then replied " Sorry it's my first time eating up here in the battery house I didn't know if there were any other choices " She then looked at me and gave me the filthest look and a eye roll and asked if there was anything else I wanted, I then replied "no thank you" then gave her my member card and the money she then mutterd under her breath "that my member card was upside down", I was absolutely gob smacked by this behavior and I was not even responding to something so disrespectful. I then sat down and waited for my food as myself and my daughter could both see her pointing at us laughing in a disgusting manner with the staff and the manager " Dave " as I was told by another employee. As our plates were being collected by a lovely young chappy I asked him what her name was and why she was being so disrespectful to us and told him the situation that happened at the bar, he then told me " it's not a good day for her " I then replied it's not a good day for a lot of people and if she's going to treat people like that she shouldn't work on Christmas day he then replied " I totally agree with you and she's done it quite a few customers. " If you don't like your job that much or people in general perhaps you shouldn't be working there at all Jayme this is absolutely disgusting behaviour and as I mentioned it to Chris on the way out he told me she's nasty to a lot of the other staff and that I should put in a complaint because this behaviour should not be condoned. I will be spreading the word about this...
Read moreI have been going to Dee Why RSL for having dinner almost every week since 2017 until COVID, always with a large group of friends, all of us with children and we never had a problem until tonight. After 2 years of all the COVID restrictions we went there for the first time with the idea of having a nice family dinner in a place that suppose to be family friendly, but it all got ruined because Julia, the supervisor of the area where the music is played, set us as a target an before we even had time to sit down she asked us to supervise our children and not allowing them to run. We totally agreed to that as we understand that it could be hazardous for others. The children, that were initially 6 and then 4, were dancing, encouraged by the singer who was doing funny dancing for them and even talked to them between songs, and occasionally came to the table to eat or drink. They weren’t causing any trouble at all and we stopped them every single time they tried to run or something like that. However, Julia kept coming every 5 min to complain with no real reason. Then, she came and said “Children have to be seated and supervised and if I have to come again I’ll ask you to leave the venue”. I was in shock because the children weren’t behaving bad at all, there were a lot of witnesses there around watching who can say it. So… it was around 7pm, what it is still family time, adults can dance and move around the venue but children can’t… We felt totally discriminated only for having children and weren’t even able to have dinner. The funny thing is that families have always been one of the main clients of RSL and Dee Why RSL have just finished a huge renovation and not only there is no designated area for families but they kick you out for no reason. After that last Julia’s comment we asked to speak to the manager and decided to leave the venue anyway because the whole situation really ruined everything and we didn’t feel we wanted to be there anymore and I don’t think I will ever go back again or recommend...
