As soon as the restrictions started to ease and Restaurants started to allow 50 people, we headed out to Darling Harbour. There weren’t a lot of places opened, but Dopa Donburi was so we got a table. It was cold that day and there were no seats inside but offered sit us outside and provide blanks as the gas heaters were not working. Location: it’s located in the newly built area where the old entertainment centre use to be, now it has become a hot spot for food, drinks and more food. Service: order at the counter, pay and collect. The food was prepared quickly. Menu: it can be quite confusing looking at it, but once you work it out then you can pick what you. The food selection is decent and sounds interesting. We chose wagyu cheeseburger Donburi, ox tongue was delicious and teriyaki salmon. Price: any customer who pays a lot for a meal but gets a small portion in return would not be happy customer even though it was yummy. If you have a big appetite this place is definitely not for you. I did enjoy the food, but I didn’t appreciate paying $80+ for 4 bowls of Donburi with two added set menus which includes a small salad and a miso soup. A place that’s worth trying once and somewhere else to...
Read moreA day in the city and we were itching for some Japanese. We had walked past them numerous times, but this was the first time we decided to actually give them a go.
Ordering was simple, self serve at the front for takeaway or inside over the counter for dine in and takeaway.
Their menu is extensive, we went for the Katsu Chicken Don Set and the Wagyu Beef Don Set that supposedly had an Australian marbling score of 8-9. Drink choices had a bit of everything but not any sugar free options on the soft drinks which was a disappointment. If you're diabetic or trying to control your sugar intake you're out of luck unless you go straight for water.
Overall the food was good. The chicken was crispy and packing flavour. The Wagyu beef was flavourful but a bit on the chewy side. The marbling score of 8 - 9 stated on the menu didn't quite add up but was still great and the price was still very reasonable.
The salad was a miss but the Miso soup really hit the mark and helped wash everything down well.
Overall a great time and with a few tweaks it can excel a lot more.
Would be happy to come back and give the other items on the menu...
Read morewe couldn't pass up the opportunity to try out a famous donburi from @dopabydevon ! . . Out of all their mouthwatering offerings we settled for the ultimate bowl...a bowl featuring Wagyu steak, bbq tongue and foie gras, a pork katsu curry and a side of sashimi (wifey can't get enough raw fish now she's moved past pregnancy!) . . The ultimate don was as amazing as we thought it'd be. Perfectly cooked buttery cuts of steak, perfectly seasoned with even more buttery rich melt in your mouth foie gras. Who knew rich and richer flavours would pair together so well. . . The pork katsu curry don was also good, perfectly crispy battered pork cutlets to soak up all the delicious golden curry. . . The real expected hit was the real wasabi they used. Like ground up wasabi root and not just horseradish paste. I couldn't believe my eyes or tongue...we haven't had this treat since we were in Japan. The wait staff looked at me like I was crazy for eating plain wasabi long after the fish was gone but it was too delicious to let go to waste. . . All in all we highly recommend this place for any lovers of Japanese food and their...
