Looks like a pattern of rudeness here! Went in tonight just before 6pm, nobody in the restaurant. Waitress had a gruff demeanor and sat is in the furthest back corner of the restaurant, no problem I am hungry and guess she had her reasons. She brings us a bottle of tap water, it's cold and raining outside and my partner only drinks hot water so I politely ask the waitress if we could get some hot water please. The waitress rudely told me no, if I want tea then she boil the water for that only. I stumbled at that and she saw and then proceeded to lecture me that there is no instant boil water and that she would need to boil it and was not accomodating to that simplest of requests. So with that I got up with my partner and walked out with stone faced waitress following behind without ever mentioning a word again to me. She was more interested in watching other staff repair rainwater leaks than to offer us simple basic service. I have never been to the Croydon store before tonight as I have been a loyal customer of Newtown store for the past 12 years. I enjoyed the fact that her attitude to boil a lousy cup of hot water for my partner cost the business my good money. I only eat prawns and was also intending to order food for my lunch the next day to take to work. She saved me about $100 so I am thankful and will never...
Read moreThai cuisine has always been one of our family favourites, and so we stopped by Doytao Thai Croydon for dinner.
Indoor/outdoor seating with a very casual, relaxed feel, and also BYO with a liquor store nearby for those who enjoy a drop with their dinner.
What we had:
Exotic Fish
Steamed whole snapper fish, topped with minced chicken and tasty sauce with ginger and vegetables.
Stir - Fry with Cashew Nuts (Pad Med Mamuang)
Stir-fried with vegetables, cashew nuts with a special homemade sauce. We choose chicken as our meat.
Red Duck Curry or Green Duck Curry
Delicious traditional Thai dish consisting of roast duck cooked in red curry paste or green curry paste with coconut milk, vegetables, tomato, pineapple and lychee.
Overall a great meal although I was the Chicken Cashew nut was not what I was expecting. The sauce was overpowering, and tasted more like oyster sauce than what I am used too. The Exotic fish was delicious, and the red duck curry was the stand out dish for me.
We also ordered 4 servings of Steamed rice and for a family of 4, our total not including drinks, was just under $100.

Read moreI was feeling lazy after work, and the fact that it was a Friday evening - I decided to pop-in to Doytao Thai in Croydon to pickup a family favourite - Sate 'chicken skewers with steamed Jasmine Rice and 6 Money Bags. Service; friendly and cooked in good time. Food; The order was taken and 10 minutes later on a Friday evening I was walking out with my dinner. I got home and I must say, I loved the Money Bags, they were crisp, fresh and still warm from the 15 minute journey home. the chicken which I ordered however were cooked to perfection and were divine. Will go back for the skewers and the rice and money bags - the sate sauce - I would make myself. Unfortunately, The Sate was ordinary and there was nothing which set it apart from all other Sate's I have had at other Thai restaurants. My friends Sate' sauce or my own Sate sauce is much tastier and chunkier than DT's version. Rice was nice and separated and still warm by the time I got home. Cleanliness; clean restaurant when I entered.
Value for money; on par with all others prices.
Overall the vino I purchased helped to wash away the disappointment from...
