(4.5 stars) The hunt for a perfect rendang led me down an unexpected path on a reader recommendation: a rendang pie at Strandello in Croydon. The popular bakery cafe had sold out of hot rendang pies on the day I visited so I made do with a Thai chicken curry pie ($9/eat-in). It impressed with both pastry and filling. With diced potato, the frozen rendang pie ($7.50) I baked later at home wasn’t a traditional rendang, but eaten as a long-strand, falling apart beef and coconut curry, I liked it. We also took home Krysia’s pierogi ($28/20) for another evening. The hand-made Polish dumplings felt pricy so I’m hoping they deliver…

Strandello’s glass counter holds plenty of temptation. A Greek-style filo pastry custard tart ($6.50) won with simple creamy custard. The spinach and ricotta slice ($7) froze beautifully and reheated in the oven for an excellent work day lunch during the week. Even the pre-made rolls looked good, though we opted for a freshly made Reuben ($17). This well-balanced brown bread sanga arrived bearing two thick slices of house-made corned beef, zucchini pickles, sauerkraut, melted GruyĆØre cheese and their own version of Russian dressing. Even though the rendang pie didn’t scratch my itch, everything here was so good, I am sure I will visit again. Don’t get confused by the similarly named...

I love their fresh pastries in the morning Sandwiches are big enough(I can have a sandwich for my breakfast and for lunch🤣) Meet pies are also fresh and yummy It is good to have a Cafe around me where I can have simple meal in the morning

Coffee is better than other shops in the area in average Taste is pretty steady I think because only one barista which is good for me (it is sad for me they close on Mondays 🄺 I know they need a break 😁)

It is pretty important for me to have a good coffee in the morning because it is kinda my one of rituals to begin my day So I am glad I don't have to wonder around any more

(I have tried all the other shop, they couldn't satisfy me. Sometimes very hot, sometimes different barista taste different, sometimes taste horrible like cigarette ashes/ burn taste maybe they didn't look after enough for the machine or...

What business does not display prices on the goods in their front display counter? Additionally, when we ordered a piece of each focaccia;- one of the pieces was the corner piece. This had 20% at most toppings. We should have : A: been asked whether we wanted the corner piece.. doubt anyone does. B: charged LESS for the clearly substandard topping quantity. But how would we ever know when prices are a mystery. Is it LEGAL to not publicly display and/or withhold prices of products for purchase? While I would hold both hands up if offered ā€œmore doughā€, I wasn’t referring to this type of dough!!....

Since I was first recommended this place, I’ve been coming here every weekend. I’ve tried almost all the sandwiches, and my favorite is the Reuben. It’s a bit spicy and so delicious🩵🩵🩵 coffee is strong, and the cold brew is great too. But it’s often sold out. Desserts are amazing as well. I highly recommend the honey cake n salt croissant. I’ll keep coming back. It’s become one of my favorite cafes. Can’t wait for the weekendšŸ˜†
