As former Brits living in Australia, we're quite picky about our Sunday roasts. We've tried many in Sydney and been disappointed. Folly's, however, could not be faulted. The brisket was so tender it fell apart at the touch of the fork, and the Yorkshire Pudding was as authentic as they come - gigantic and complete with hollow centre. Veggies were delicious (even Brussel Sprouts were tasty!) and the gravy was definitely homemade. It came with options of horseradish (again, this did not taste like it was from a jar) and mustard. I wish I'd taken a photo but we were too keen to tuck in. Such a generous helping that we couldn't fit in dessert but from what we saw of others it looked delicious. A great selection of drinks including non-alcoholic beer, though the addition of non-alcoholic prosecco (Edenvale from the supermarket is an economic and tasty option) would be welcome for us non-drinkers who don't want a sugary mocktail with a roast. Husband had Italian red by the glass and said it was perfect. I can't remember the exact price of the roast ($35?) but it was amazing value. Would highly recommend it and will be back to sample the mussels in...
Read moreForget that tedious drive to the Southern Highlands or the Blue Mountains. If you want THE BEST genuine "Sunday Roast", in Sydney, no make that NSW, no on reflection I think I can safely say Australia, then go no further than Folly's in Cammeray. We had THE MOST scrumdilly lunch there recently. It was exactly as we saw in the photograph, only better in reality. First we had two large slices of warm and very light Sourdough, made even better by some salty butter. Then it was onto the main course. We could not believe how tender the long strips of meat were. At times it was difficult to eat, as it was just falling off the fork. The roast potatoes were perfect. Not too hard and not too soft. The carrots were delicious, and dare I say it, even the Brussels Sprouts tasted good. They were sweet and firm. To top it off, there was a large Yorkshire Pudding which went down a treat. We could not fault Follys in any way. The service was excellent, the prices were extremely fair with the main course being only $30 per person, and there was a good selection of wines. Will we go back? You bet we will. Probably once a...
Read moreThere were eight of us for lunch last Sunday and we were the only customers in this pleasant looking place. I did wonder at that as when I made my way to The Public other eating places were packed. We were hungry and we all deliberated about the best thing on the menu and they all sounded so good. About half of us decided on the rocket salad for $22 (I think) with pears and asparagus and the option of chicken added for $5. I think I stupidly visualised large chunks of pear and several sticks of asparagus. What I got was a bowl of rocket with very very small minute slivers of pear and maybe two broken asparagus spears. I was not the only one disappointed in the meal. We all felt sorry for the woman who'd organised the venue and didn't say anything then but later some of us agreed it was not good value for money and it's extremely unlikely we could or would recommend The Public to anyone. The wait person was competent and friendly but one needs more than that. Eight of us tipped her adequately if not well. It's such a nice looking place but maybe it's not for food but just...
