Little background information- I have never written a bad review in my life I just felt I had to say something. I came in to buy a pie today, never been in before and asked the lady behind the counter for a steak and mushroom pie. She suggested a pie and I walked out happily. When I got home I realised it wasn’t meat and came to write a review only to notice it is a vegan restaurant. I really respect the idea and am glad that this is available but I think the lady at the counter should have told me it was in fact just a mushroom pie without the steak. It also didn’t taste great. I got it with a side of mash and gravy and I have to say the gravy was so salty I couldn’t eat it. Also the gravy from the mash had gone all over the pie so it became completely soggy in the 5 minutes it took me to get home. I couldn’t eat the pie or the sides. I am really disappointed by this experience and wouldn’t recommend eating here. Worst $15 I’ve spent in...

Cycling from Melbourne to Sydney, I have been eating tones of pie as it was something available in almost every village.

So I feel legitimate to give my opinion lol.

Let's start with the crust : excellent. Right amount of crust on the top, and slightly chewy on the bottom. I was surprised because while it's made without butter, I still had this fatty comforting texture.

Now the filling : rich, delicious, with a touch of spice and different aroma that just give the twist needed to be bored from a vegetal bland flavour.

Finishing with the place : it's rather small and could look a bit chaotic, but let's be honest : it's homey. The 2 cooks/waiter were adorable and I loved the idea you can look at the process of making.

So five stars, well deserved. Price is a bargain and I have to applause from the quantity of different recipe offered, all very different and all sounding very exquisite.

Don't come because it's vegan. Come because...

I got severe food poisoning that lasted over a week after having the funky mushroom pie (sorry can’t remember exact name of the dish but it was mushroom). I remember thinking at the time the pie ingredients had a strange texture and the pie itself did not taste great but the sauce covered up any “off” taste. It has been possibly the worst food poisoning of my life and makes me queasy even writing about this now. I came on the reviews now to check if anyone else had experienced this and sadly it seems someone else, who is a credible reviewer, had done so too.

To the owners: please don’t keep pies out in this hot weather for days and practice good hygiene with great care! Mushroom going mouldy causes VERY serious contamination. Although my main symptoms are gone I am still not fully recovered (it’s been 1.5 weeks now since...

First of all, wow! Just amazing! When I walked in, I was greeted with such warmth and kindness from Saija from Finland. She was knowledgeable about all the 100% vegan products that they had. I was super impressed with her recommendations. I tried the Funky Chunky with the shiitake mushrooms and every bite was flakey and savory. The mashed potatoes and gravy were phenomenal and paired well with this pie. I was so hungry I tried another pie, Saija’s personal favorite, the Eezy Chic’N Cheezy. I was in cheezy heaven. Then for dessert; the caramel bar that’s made in house was pure decadence and the espresso milkshake amazing. This place was so good, they need to come to the USA, where I’m from, particularly Chicago. The model of a true Aussie pie should be represented by Funky Pies. In love with this restaurant.

The Messy Summer Salad plate was excellent! So was the Funky Chunky Pie. The pie-and-mash-with-gravy-and-peas meals looked delicious! Many pies to choose from, as well as sausage rolls and cheezy sticks. Smoothies, milkshakes, freshly squeezed juices and bottled drinks. Desserts, muffins, cookies, snacks and sweets. The chiller and freezer have delectable vegan treats and groceries. Outdoor seating and a table for four inside. Popular place on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Ethical business, supporting charities and the community.
