We were in the area, it was late, we were hungry and we wanted Japanese food. Luckily for us we stumbled upon this place. There was a decent variety of items on the menu from which we ordered the Yuzu Karage Chicken Donburi, Tofu and Vegetable Udon, Salmon Sashimi, Mini Cucumber rolls and the Hiramasa Kingfish. The Hiramasa Kingfish was absolutely fantastic. The sauce was so tasty and putting a little bit of everything in one bite was delicious. I'm not a chilli person but that little slice of chili helped to make that dish more tasty and it wasn't too hot. The Udon was very nice. The broth was flavourful but not salty, like you get at other places, and the noodles nice and chewy. Salmon sashimi was nice and fresh but what I really appreciated about it is the thickness of each slice. I've noticed that at many other Japanese restaurants we've been to lately, the Sashimi is being sliced thin. So same price like other restaurants, just as fresh (if not more so) but the thickness makes the meal so much nicer. The Yuzu Karage was a wonderful dish. The chicken was crispy with a thin batter and the pieces were juicy. Drizzled on top was a Yuzu mayonnaise and in the rice was (I think) fried onions that were also nice and crispy. My only slight criticism about this dish (for me) is that the rice was a little dry. The service was nice but when we first arrived the waitress rolled her eyes when we asked for a table. But they were open for at least another 30 minutes and they're we're still other customers,. So what's with the attitude? Other than that, the service was good.

We recently enjoyed a delicious meal at Haku, in the Newmarket complex, Randwick. The staff are pleasant and kindly answered questions we had regarding the menu. It wasn’t busy on the night we visited so food came out quickly. The food was flavoursome and textured as expected. I particularly was looking forward to the chicken katsu curry which did not disappoint. Haku is great for casual dining with friends or even on your own… but go and bring your friends and support a good, little local restaurant.

A simple benchmark of the ambition of a Japanese restaurant is the quality of their Wasabi and their draft beer. If the Wasabi is not grated on site and the draft beer has foam like an Australian beer then you know that the food rarely will leave a mark. Few are those Japanese restaurants that keep their beer machine clean to Japanese standards creating that fine foam of nitrogen bubbles making the drinking a sensory experience. Happy to come back but will hurry slowly.

I have been dining frequently with my friends and family at this most delicious new restaurant at Newmarket, Randwick. The food is sensational, fresh, delicious and served with a smile! The menu is extensive with many great options. I can recommend all their dishes. The panko prawn sushi and miso eggplant are so tasty and beautifully presented along with all their dishes. The Japanese beer is great too. The staff are very friendly and polite. The prices are very reasonable! I would highly recommend Haku Randwick. You won't be...
