Another Lebanese restaurant to add to my favourites! This was my first time eating in Granville and I am happy this was the first place I tried.
The venue is nice, spacious and gives off cosy vibes with warm interiors and fabric draping from the ceilings. There are little things around the place that just remind you of Lebanon which is nice considering no one can travel there right now!
We were warmly welcomed by the owner and we were so excited to see what he was going to prepare for us. Once the dishes started coming out, we knew this was going to be one delicious feed. I mean, look at the spread!
We were brought out pickled turnips and cucumbers, tomato, chilli and fresh red onion to accompany the dishes that were about to come out. Honestly, I can just eat pickled turnips alone and all day, every day!
Out came the dips.. hummus and baba ganoush. The hummus was smooth and presented beautifully and the baba ganoush had the right amount of smokiness to it. All you need is a little fresh Lebanese bread to enjoy the gorgeous flavours from these dips.
For a little freshness, we had the traditional Lebanese salads. The tabouli was dressed beautifully and was not dry at all. I don’t usually eat fattoush but this was just delicious! Fattoush is simply tomato, lettuce, shallots, radish, parsley, garlic topped with fried bread and dressed with grenadine and extra virgin olive oil. The fried bread is a great way to top off the dish!
As well as my favourite vegetarian dishes, we also got to try some of the delicious meats.
We received a platter of chicken, lamb and kafta. They were juicy, tender and not dry at all.. simply cooked to perfection! I love grabbing a piece in Lebanese bread and dipping it into the garlic sauce. That’s the best way to enjoy it.
And what’s a meal without fries? These were freshly prepared and the first bite was amazing. Crispy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. Hot, golden potato fries.. my favourite!
The last thing we got to try were the falafel, fried kibbeh and cheese sambousek. This had to be one of my favourite plates! Fried falafel can sometimes be too oily but this was perfect. It was crispy and the colour on the inside was gorgeous. My favourite way to eat falafel is with the tahini sauce and with the pickles. It’s a great balance between the flavours of coriander, cumin and various herbs and the sourness of the pickled turnips and cucumbers. Finish it off with a bite of the sweet chilli and it’s a party in your mouth!
Everyone is familiar with kibbeh nayeh but have you ever had it fried?! Inside this oval shaped mezze is mince meat, pine nuts and spices. I love having this with hummus.
The cheese sambousek.. wow! I wasn’t expecting such a cheese pull with this one and I was willing to burn my mouth for it. It was so delicious and the cheese was so good. I could have eaten like 10 of these. Probably the best cheese sambousek I’ve ever had simply, no lie.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, traditional Lebanese is my favourite. This restaurant served it up and it just felt like I was in Lebanon eating their food. Whilst I don’t live anywhere near this area, I would definitely come back. I think Lebanese banquets are great for a big group so next time I come, I’ll bring a lot...
Read moreWent today with a friend for lunch. I ordered a lamb shawarma wrap and he ordered a chicken shawarma plate. As we waited for our order we noticed a family of 6 sit down on a table outside. The family took their order approximately 4-5minutes after we had made our order. We had a couple of drinks and talked for a bit when about 25 minutes later the wait staff comes out with food for the customers outside. My friend and I noticed this but we decided to wait for a little moment.
At 30 minutes my friend waved over a waitress who had not served us asking her how long our food was going to be approximately. A young man with long hair wearing a cap immediately interrupted, telling my friend in a confrontational tone that we need to wait because the kitchen is very busy with orders.
It was obviously not the case having seen that another table with more food had received their food before us. After taking more food to the family outside the young man said whilst passing "your food is coming soon".
I have actually been to this restaurant before but I believe that this level of work ethic and professionalism isn't up to par with the standard of service at Jasmine's. Perhaps some customer service training is in order?
In relation to the food, the chips were great with an excellent crust, the lamb shawarma was much too sour with too much lemon and my friend said chicken shawarma was nice and tender. They have some sparkling juices at the store, I tried the pineapple and it...
Read moreI've been going to this restaurant for nearly 2 years and never had any complaints. However, today's experience was very disappointing. The place seems to be under a new management and the service was terrible.
Firstly, I asked for lamb kebabs, not lamb pieces and I was told that it would be the shish kebab. When I received the food, I received the lamb pieces. It turns out the correct option was kafta, not shish kebab. The staff need to know what they're serving so they can make the correct recommendation to the customer.
Secondly, I ordered a rice platter which came out incorrectly as the staff taking the order misunderstood basic instructions and I ended up paying an additional $30 - $40 because they placed the blame on me! What should've cost me ~$50 for a 2 person lunch ended up costing me $90!
Lastly, we ordered a plate of falafel as an appetiser which we received when we were half way through our meal while another couple who ordered after us received theirs about 10 minutes before us.
I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 because the food was not terrible, but the service was absolutely abysmal. I don't think I will be returning to this...
