First impression was "SPACIOUS"!

Tables don't seem to be in the way. Can get around them easily, with enough space spare. These tables were placed around the place with 4 stools on each. Obviously ok for a coffee and cake, but not to stay for too long.

The place is clearly divided into the "Sweet" area, and the "Coffee" area. Both areas very clean, very tidy.

I saw less people on the coffee area, so I went there for service. The lady behind the counter said that all orders were to be done on the register. But that she will be happy to help us with the process.

One register, five staff trying to get their turn on the register, five different set of clients on the other side of the counter waiting for their respective staff member to get their turn on the register. It was busy, but not that busy to justify the waiting to place the order. Maybe a second register would help the clients to be served faster.

Coffee was divine!! I do not know what brand was used, but my Latte had the right amount of coffee versus the right amount of creamy milk and the right amount of foam on top. The bitterness of the coffee was strong, but not overbearing. I really enjoyed that coffee!!

Now the food was "HEAVEN!!". My friends shared a Cookies and Cream Cheese cake that stopped the conversation right at the first bite!. No Kidding!!.. it was that good!!

I had the Hungarian "Kurtosh" which I loved when I was in Hungry last October. This one was absolutely delicious!. the softness of the bread, and the crunchiness and sweetness of the crust. I loved it!...

The only item I did not enjoy was the "Palmier". It was nothing like the original. Not a toasted sugar crunchy filo, but more a bread with a toasted outside.

I will definitely be back. I enjoyed it so much. I also noticed that there are one in Surry Hills, and one in Randwick, so I may get to one of these ones closer to me.

The Kurtosh or chimney cakes here are amazing. I definitely have to give the team here that. It definitely tastes authentic like the kurtosh that you can get from the street peddlers in Hungary. Nothing compares to a freshly made kurtosh when it’s snowing and -1 degrees. And if you are craving that chimney cake from Hungary this is the place to be. The chai latte is also excellent here.

However there are a few things I don’t like. Firstly, I have to say kurtosh is pricey. A chimney cake would cost around $2AUD in Hungary and here it starts at $8 and goes up to $12 if you decide to get the Nutella option plus the toppings available. I have to admit I still wince when I fork over $10.50 for my favourite Nutella with cinnamon.

The cakes are a hit or a miss. They bake large slabs of cake and sell them at $6.50 a slice. The cake can be freshly baked that morning or it may have been sitting there for a few days. So the popular cakes, I assume the chocolate flavored ones, are generally safe but if you want a fruit cake or a cheesecake probably give it a miss because it can be stale and texture can be off. At $6.50 a slice I would have expected all the cakes to be freshly baked. So that is why I have learnt to only get the kurtosh which is made fresh when you order.

Finally, although the store closes at 10pm and from 9:30pm onwards you can only get beverages and cakes served in takeaway cups and boxes. I had to say I was disappointed as 30mins should be enough to serve one more...

Ok... I have lived in CN since 2005. This place can be a literal gold mine. HOWEVER, I have no dramas noting both positive and criticisms...that’s why we are here: 1: I ordered a caramel and oat slice- (fantastic flavour) and I needed to collect something from the pharmacy; advised I’d order a Kurtosh with cinnamon and choc (“extra”’s are now extra...okay... but I do think a $0.20-$0.80 -don’t quote me- is a little rude- total baseline cost I think is $9:30...)

So today- I had my slice and returned approx 15-20min later for the Kurtkosh.

On my return, the store was not busy and no one seemed to know about my Kurtosh. There were two customers served before me (ok...sort of)...but there was no acknowledgement that my order existed/was coming and after completing their other orders, they both went to clear tables and did not speak with me. I waited for another 7 or so mins with no one speaking to me. Finally after another customer paid for her order, I was loosing cool and explained what had happened to me. The staff member was super apologetic and had my order ready in about 3mins. I had receipts..clearly not trying to con a $9:30 Kurtosh... This ended up taking far too long and I admit, the only way I actually got served was to keep on tasting the samplers- it honestly was just getting a bit silly...I had to get attention somehow...but not my proudest moment... Still, I’ll be back as the food is good...&...

25/1/25 - 2.5 stars To say Crows Nest has limited dessert options would be an understatement, thus, we were essentially forced to try here. This branch of a pretty successful Hungarian dessert chain is definitely very popular and was quite crowded even in the late evening. Normally I'd take being crowded as a good sign, but, service and crowd management here is terrible. There is no clear signage on how to queue and, even after forming a line behind other patrons and waiting 30 minutes, the male staff member (there was only one) told us to go to the back of the line after making it to the front and skipped us to serve people behind. Workflow definitely needs to be better optimized as each customer takes at least 10 minutes to serve since every cake is served by weight so the servers have to guess how much to cut then weigh and adjust. Terribly inefficient. The chimney cakes are definitely the best option here as they are made to order, but, also can take quite a long time to be served (took another 30mins for us). Overall, the service and customer experience is bad. The cakes are expensive and not very good. The only saving grace is the chimney cakes which are actually quite nice and mostly worth the price. Chocolate babka: C, 5/10. Dry and chewy. Not enjoyable at all Biscoff cheesecake: B, 6/10. Topping was too much like whipped cream. Not enough substance Duo mousse: A, 7/10
