First time going to Kurtosh and after all the reviews we were really excited. We bought 1kg of different cakes to sample everything and some pastries and coffee. First impression on walking in did not start great. The lady serving us (I didnt get her name but she was asian with glasses and a bit of an accent ?canadian ?US) was sooo moody like she didnt want to be there and it was a massive bother because we were thinking too long (there was no one else waiting). Anyway the walnut cake was absolutely try and not worth even eating, the mousse cake was nice, the raspberry cheesecake was nice but wayyyy too much sugar, the baked cheesecake was medium, the tiramisu was more a chocolate cream cake and definitely not a tiramisu, the strawberry sponge cake was bland just dry sponge with jam, the espresso almond log was nice, and all the pastries were nice but very oil but great flavours like smashed potato and capsicum and feta. Coffee was good. So all in all very disappointed. Would not get any of the cakes again, its not worth it, too much sugar and dry tasting, and I eat cakes pretty much every day. Coffee was good, maybe if Im around Id get one. But definitely need to work on the customer service! Not only that but she stuffed the cakes as much as she could in tiny boxes so they were all mixing in together and hard to eat. Will definitely not be back. Id recommend bake bar by far. Much better customer...
Read moreLove kurtosh been coming back here for their wide range of delicious cake slabs. But the other day was the first time having their signature chimney cake! Crispy caramelised flaky outer layer, with soft inner walls, soft tender pull that falls apart with ease. That day we watched the process of how it was made from the kneading of the dough to the torching of the sugar and coating of hazelnut. The dough effortlessly coils around the rolling pin ready to be baked to sweet golden goodness. It’s hard not walk past and get a whiff of the sweet pastry smell. The staff were so friendly and accomodating, prompt service and very clean with with their processes.
My personal opinion is to get a cinnamon scroll with Nutella middle, the perfect sweetness. However if you have a severe sweet tooth go for the loaded toppings with the choice of hazelnut and pistachio with the Nutella centre just be mindful that there is an extra layer of caramelisation to keep the topping on. My go to cake slab is always a cheesecake and this raspberry cheesecake was just divine! Sweet however tinge of tartness and sourness from the raspberry creates the perfect balance ! If you don’t have much of a sweet tooth they have some savoury...
Read moreI was saddened that the other patisserie shop closed at The Spot (no faults of their own, I was told), so I was glad that Kürtősh was just a bit further down the street.
This place has good selections of cakes on offer when I visited early in the morning. Later in the day I believe they also have the cone cakes, although I didn't come back for that.
Keep in mind, Kürtősh sells it cakes by weight: 1 kilogram will be enough for about 6-7 people, 12 if you cut very small (equivalent to two full boxes, comes to the same price as a full-size cake, around $60). They also give discount if you buy 1 kilograms of cake or more.
This occasion, I bought Black Forrest cake and tried their other ones in small slices(lemon meringue and tiramisu). They were all pretty tasty. I especially really liked their Black Forrest cake, it was moist and with just the right amount of filling.
Have yet to try their coffee and breakfast items, so there might be more updates down the track.
Definitely recommend for their...
