take the $150 per person you weren’t expecting to spend here and spend it literally on anything else at all. you’ll be grateful.
edit in response for feedback: I understand seafood has a high base cost, but for the price i was hoping for fresh food, not frozen. The lobster was particularly bad. tasteless and rubbery, a bit grey looking. your sauce is tasty, but $15 for extra sauce as the only option is not great. it left a lot of waste. service was extremely poor. One staff member on the floor who disappeared for most of the evening while i was there. we were not given plates or cutlery until we asked for it and received no service during the meal. Not even a check up to see if we needed drinks or anything else. No effort was made to make us feel valued as customers. When booking the table i checked the box to say the dinner was for a birthday celebration i’m not sure if that’s supposed to trigger any kind of service point for the team, but it certainly didn’t appear to do anything from Kickin Inn’s perspective. i had to wait for the one staff member to come out from the Kitchen to take payment and they may not have even done that had i not rung the bell on the counter…on a.Saturday night..:prime dining time. Ambiance of the restaurant is not great, but not worth raising as it sounds more like a whinge at this point. bottom line is that the food and the experience does not match the price position This was a second visit. Initial visit was shortly after the restaurant opened. at that time, waiters were dressed in smart attire, food was, from memory, not bad. this recent visit, however, was a serious disappointment. It felt like no one cared, no sense of pride or respect for the business or patrons. Based on this experiences i can’t see how or why you would deserve anything other than a negative review. Potential patrons deserve to know sp they can make a decision on where to spend their time and money. Good luck your goal of opening 100 of these in Australia. Hopefully the other 99 are an...
Read moreWe have been here 3 times now, the first time being when the restaurant first opened. Which was great service as they had enough staff on. The last two times however, have been a very poor experience, they do not have enough staff on to cater for the size of the restaurant, it was peak time tonight and they only had what looked like to be 2 floor staff on.
We ordered pasta with octopus, birthday shrimp martini, and the budget bugs bag, the shrimp martini and pasta came out promptly, and hot, the shrimps were very tasty, the pasta came out without cutlery, it took at least 5 minutes to ask a waiter for forks so we can eat the pasta, as they were super busy, they forgot to bring out the forks and it took another few minutes to flag them down again.
The bugs bag came out probably around 5-10 minutes after the first two dishes came out, however the wrong bag was brought out, I believe it was octopus bag that came out, the waitress quickly rectified this and brought out 4 bugs on the side, so that was great. The prawns and octopus tasted great, the legs on the crabs were cold, however the body was at a great temperature. Here’s where the big disappointment was, I had one bug which tasted ok, the very next bug I had was off, as soon as I took a bite, I had a big whack of off seafood hit my tastebuds, I advised the waitress of this so that they could let the kitchen know, but that put me off eating the rest of the food.
I don’t blame the waiters for the service as they seemed to be under staffed and were trying their best, however that, along with the experience of the food makes the 2 star rating.
I’m not sure if this was just an off night for this particular store, but I do not think I would come back again, which is a petty as we have had a good experience the first time...
Read moreI never, ever write comments to restaurants, but could not after we dined here on Saturday night. I do feel bad writing this comment as the two young waiting staff did their absolute upmost, in what was clearly an awful shift- they should be commended for, given their young ages, staying calm and repeatedly apologising for what was out of their control.
I truly believe if it hadn't been for people feeling so sorry for them and the way they handled the situation there would have been some very angry people to deal with.
The place was extremely busy when we arrived, with numerous uncleared tables. Very quickly it was clear that the place was severely understaffed.
It took forever for our order to be taken, at 6pm they had run out of chips, drinks took 40 mins to arrive despite repeated requests, we eventually went to the bar to remind them, one main meal was completely missing from the order, but by this stage we just said to cancel. The bag we ordered was really very delicious, if not very overpriced for what came, but the whole experience was terrible. The reason I am leaving this is so that the management team can have a look at their rostering processes. We asked one of the young staff if there had been lots of sick calls, which is why it was so understaffed, they said not but as there was only a couple of bookings so there had only been them rostered.
Surely South Village on a wet Saturday night would be highly likely to have lots of walk ins, so should have rostered more staff. The concept and the food were great, but the whole experience, through no fault of the two wonderful young staff members, there was...
