Kitsuya is a new addition to the Wolli Creek food scene, and looks very promising. Firstly, the location is unique in that its away from the main shopping area of Wolli Creek, but has the benefit of overlooking the park area and has a secluded outdoor dining space. They have done a good job with the fitout. The seating is very comfortable, spacious and clean. The area has great natural light.
The food is alright, but I would not say that it is particularly great.
The good: The sushi and sashimi platter was very nice. Thick cuts of salmon, tuna and kingfish sashimi. The rice for the sushi was good. The curry katsu was competent The cutlery and food presentation was great The california roll was tasty
What can be improved: The ramen had a standard amount of noodles and toppings (not generous, but sufficient). The soup was a bit lukewarm for my liking. The karaage was a bit strange. it was very bready and they use breast instead of thigh meat, so it was quite dry and tough. The dipping sauce was a bit strange - was it hummus instead of mayo? At this price point, I was expecting fresh wasabi instead of premade squirted-from-a-tube wasabi
Generally, I find the prices to be expensive for the small portions and "just OK" food.
They now have beer on tap, and bar snacks which I think the community will like. Just hope the food will improve as this is a lovely spot for a...
Read moreExtremely disappointed – served undercooked chicken and treated with arrogance
I had a terrible experience at Kitsuya Japanese Restaurant. I ordered the Chicken Karaage Donburi. When I got to the third piece of chicken, I found it was clearly undercooked – the batter was still sticky and raw, and the chicken itself was slightly translucent and pink.
I raised this concern with the staff. The chef came out and insisted that the chicken was fully cooked, claiming that it only looked that way because it was thigh meat. I explained that I’ve eaten chicken thighs countless times, and this piece was obviously not cooked properly, especially compared to the other fully cooked pieces on the same plate.
Eventually, the chef replaced just one piece of chicken – no apology, no further action.
To make things worse, a server arrogantly told me to Google why chicken can be pink, implying that I was ignorant and overreacting.
That is incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful. This isn’t about color – it’s about texture, safety, and basic cooking standards.
Serving undercooked poultry is a serious health risk. Instead of taking accountability, they dismissed my concerns and tried to shift the blame to the customer. Unacceptable.
Poor food safety, poor service, and no sense of responsibility. I will not be returning, and I do NOT recommend this...
Read moreI walked in and walked out. The vibe was so weird and uncomfortable. There was no greeting from any staff. There was only one table occupied. After i walked in, i deliberately waited a while to see how long would i be greeted and invited to sit down. That didn't happen until i locked my eyes at the staff for some 10 seconds or so. It took the lady another minute to come over to my table with a glass of water. The weirdest of all was that she didn't give me a menu snd simply put a paper with a QR code on the table. I of course know it was for ordering food. But as a secret eater and google reviewer, i too deliberately pretended ignorance and kept looking at her waiting for her assistant. Well, that didn't happen even when she noticed me looking at her. I then walked to the counter and asked for a menu. She then mentioned the QR code on the paper which i next returned to her and walked out. I didn't know about the food but the service was totally way off Japanese standard. I don't think the owner and staffs were Japanese anyway. With such level of service no wonder this restaurant has only one table occupied at the busy time of lunch when other restaurants were all happily servicing many hungry diners. This restaurant must change otherwise...
