Have heard a lot about this place with mixed feelings. Some love it, some don't so I was sceptical whether the goods will live up to expectations. I was not disappointed. The cafe is right opposite Wolli Creek station and has a few tables outside. Inside it's like an Asian bakery concept where you grab a tray and tongs and pick the goodies you'd like and pay for it. There are of course the infamous Matcha croissant but they also have quite a few other items as well as loaves of bread and premade items in the disaply. On this occasion I chose the matcha croissant, coffee bun filled with belgium chocolate & a blueberry & cream cheese bun. All to be washed down with a matcha latte. The latte was strong with matcha flavour, not sweetned which I prefer and delicious. The matcha croissant was crispy and filled generously with matcha custard. The custard, like the latte was not overly sweet and had a good hint if matcha flavour which was perfect for me as any stronger will probably be overpowering given that there is quite a lot of custard filling. The coffee bun was dense, dark and flavourful and loved the chocolate in the centre, only if there was more! On the contrary, the blueberry bun was super light and fluffy with a smear of cream cheese inside. The flavours were nice but it was a little disappointing compared with the others. Overall really delicious and fast and...
Read moreTasty croissants, but very bad customer service. Overpriced as well. The reception lady is unfriendly. Upon seeing me walk up to the counter, she raised her chin as if to say what do you want, instead of even putting in the effort to ask me what I want to order (forget a hello or smile). Every other time, she takes orders as if she doesn't want to be there. Really sours the experience. They've got my order wrong many times too and the waits are very long too. Not so worth anymore, although the matcha croissant is good. EDIT: Changed to 1 STAR because of how terrible the customer service is. I went again because I was nearby and just really needed a latte. The lady at the front (11 apr 2021 noon-ish) again was not only unfriendly, but the barista didn't know what I ordered. So either she didn't pass on the order, or the barista missed it. I waited for over 15 minutes until he asked me what I needed and made the milkiest hojicha latte. There was barely any flavouring. Please advise this barista to use more of the flavouring as that's the whole point of a customer paying you ~$6 for a...
Read moreTop Impression is an iconic bakery cafe, known for their croissants, that has given people reasons to visit Wolli Creek.
Food: Famous for their croissant range, they have introduced other pastries over the years: egg tarts, Basque cheesecake, cinnamon scrolls etc. My favourite would be the almond croissant, but the sausage buns remain the kids' favourite.
Coffee: Yeehah! Single O, very consistent coffee in terms of flavour and froth with the help of many machines.
Service: The staff are generally friendly and will remember your order, but I have seen staff getting a bit grumpy at times at other customers.
Overall, the bakery cafe has been the "place to be" for locals since the day they opened. Its location directly outside the station made it possible for people to make a pit stop to pick up a few pastries before resuming their train journeys. While seating is exclusively outdoors and very limited, it is a great spot to catch sunlight and watch drivers get frustrated by the ridiculously amount of people crossing the road.
