Left of Field, located on the water at Rhodes has been a popular café for a few years now. Ever since it opened, it has been buzzing with visitors. I visited early in its opening to sample the earl grey pancakes with popcorn and they have updated their menu regularly and I hence revisited to sample their new offerings. You must visit for the pancakes. These are not the kind of pancakes you can mix and flip yourself at home. These are the type that a super fluffy, yet crunchy on the outside and like a mix with a muffin. They are then sent into overdrive. The Pavlova pancakes are like no other. Topped with meringue crumbs, passionfruit coulis, pieces of kiwi fruit, strawberries and blueberries. On the top is a caramelized banana and served with a side of vanilla custard cream. They are begging to be devoured. And devoured we did. We urge you to keep an eye out for the winter menu as we hear a new pancake option that will be sure to be a hit. But we will leave the surprise to the them. We’re also regular fans of a pannacotta. This version was a yoghurt panacotta and very creamy, it had just the right amount of wobble. Served with a beautiful roasted coconut granola with strawberries, blueberries, and toasted coconut. One of the best we’ve tasted. Although the sweet options were superb, we thought it would be good to sample a lunch option too and so we went for the Autumn Roast Vegetables – market veggies including beetroot, pumpkin on hummus with farro and hazelnut dukkah. You can also add chicken or haloumi to your dish. There’s plenty of delicious sounding items on the menu: cheesesteak, fried chicken sandwich or the lof burger and you’re set for the perfect lunch. The coffees are great too, we went for a cappuccino and an iced coffee. They have some sweet treats too – the ever popular butterbing cookies. It is also a licensed venue so you can enjoy a beer, wine or cider on your visit. The space has a light filled interior, clean styling and a sizeable outdoor area too. It is very welcoming and the staff are extremely hospitable and focused on A + service. The food came out as quick as we ordered, we were suitably impressed. Don’t take our word for it. You must visit.

Great Dining Experience at Left of Field Left of Field in Ryde offers a fantastic dining experience with its unique menu and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant stands out for its creative approach to cuisine and attention to detail, making it a notable choice in the area. The menu features a variety of dishes that are both inventive and well-executed. The flavors are vibrant, and the presentation of each dish is thoughtfully crafted. While most of the offerings are impressive, there were a few items that were good but didn’t quite reach the same level of excellence as the standout dishes. The ambiance at Left of Field is comfortable and stylish, creating a pleasant setting for a meal whether you're dining with friends or enjoying a quiet dinner. The service is generally attentive and friendly, contributing to an overall positive experience. There might be a slight wait during busy times, but the quality of the food makes it worth it. In summary, Left of Field earns 4 stars for its creative and well-prepared dishes, inviting atmosphere, and good service. It’s a great dining spot with a few minor areas that could be fine-tuned to reach perfection. Went for breakfast on the weekend and left pretty disappointed. I ordered the chorizo hash and a large extra, extra hot coffee. Both came out luke warm and not hot. I was hoping for a home made hash brown but was served frozen potato gems you get from the supermarket and give your kids. The chorizo had no taste either. My wife got the salmon bagel with cream cheese. Unfortunately the bagel was dry as there was no cream cheese. We called the waitress over and asked if there was supposed to be cream cheese on it. She said yes, it may have melted on the top. We Lol as her meal wasn’t even warm, which matched her coffee. The taste of the salmon was nice, and they brought out some cream cheese they forgot. Disappointed as none of our meals or coffee were hot. I mentioned the feedback to improve their food, and they removed my meal which was nice but wasn’t expected. I was happy to pay and was only offering feedback to improve. Not fans of dogs at cafes and there were plenty there barking and licking anything that moved. Watched one of the waiters let a dog jump up on him and he patted it all over. Then went in and gave something to a customer and then washed his hands. Average experience had and won’t...
