I don't usually write reviews, but this experience was so terrible I had to write one.
We saw a Yasaka Ramen open at Rhodes and we were excited to try it out as the city one was great. We waited for quite a long time (around 30 minutes), as people would finish and leave but the tables wouldn't be cleaned.
We ordered Karaage and 2 Yasaka Special Ramen. After ordering our food, we waited another 45 minutes for our food to be brought to the wrong table (it was the table next to ours). Unfortunately, they brought the Karaage to the wrong earlier so the other table started eating. They then took the ramen away and put it somewhere in the back for another 10 minutes before bringing it out to us.
As expected, the noodles and soup were lukewarm at best. As described by other reviews, the soup was extremely oily and the noodles were very thick; likely because the noodles has just been sitting in the soup for awhile.
The price point for this meal was not cheap either, so basically you are paying a lot of money for a sub standard service, food, and overall experience.
It's quite funny because the motto for Yasaka Ramen is "No Ramen No Life". In this store, the lights for the "No Ramen" part is broken so it only shows the "No Life" part, which perfectly encapsulates the entire experience at this store.
Do not go if...
Read moreTried it despite the reviews because I really wanted to like a tonkotsu ramen place near by apartment - sadly, it's as bad as they say. I can't believe it's packed with customers - maybe people trying for the first time like me?
Service was quick Water tasted weird. Like unfiltered tap water The ramen looked and smelled good at first, which got my hopes up. I got the Grilled Chashu Ramen The chashu was kind of tasteless, which surprised me, since it smelled good. The soup, as mentioned, is very thick and oily. This isn't necessarily bad - Gumshara Ramen in the city has a similar style of soup. The difference is that Gumshara's soup is extremely tasty and delicious - but this one was so bland. At first I thought people were exaggerating about it smelling bad, but after a few spoonfuls, I started getting whiffs of this weirdly rancid smell. You really need good noodles and for the soup to taste good to pull off this kind of thick texture. Speaking of the noodles, noodles weren't terrible, but they didn't seem to be the sort advertised on their menu (which looks thinner). Pretty thick and underwhelming, definitely nothing to shout about.
All in all, this is the second worst ramen experience I've...
Read moreWe read the reviews about the oily thick broth and still decided to give it a go because it always seemed busy. The claims about the oil are fairly true. But the broth wasn't too bad its just the style. Ive had far far worse. We got the tonkotsu shoyo broth mix. The oil does influence the taste a fair bit and it is a thicker broth. But it still has a heavy pork flavour.
When we travelled all around Japan we experienced similar ramen with a fairly decent layer of oil and a super thick broth and it was dependant on the prefecture. Did remind me very much of those bowls of ramen.
It does come down to your preference.
What I enjoyed. -The grilled chasu was really delicious and crispy -The soft chasu was melt in your mouth. soft yolk boiled egg was good. Bitey fresh noodles which was a nice difference, which is again a different style.
Overall it was a decent bowl of ramen. The only downside is that the amount of oil and the fat from the chasu does make it quite a heavy meal. Leaving you very full. So you want to eat when hungry. Its not a light meal. The 3 different styles of pork and the noodles definetly saved it for me. Even though I do prefer less...
