Went there around 1pm with a friend, the area and seating were not too crowded, which is a surprise.

We ordered - soft shell crab tempura- | - medium sashimi all sorts - | - cold dipped soba noodles - | - salmon and salmon roe don- | - 6 sea urchins - | 3 fresh pacific oysters -

The soft shell crab tempura was the best out of all the dishes, it was tender, crunchy, juicy, umami. Me and my friend rated the dish a 10/10. It is a must try!!!!!!!

The medium size sashimi all sorts were a meh, it is fresh, the salmon slices were soft and tender, with a great buttery texture. Recommend to order the salmon slices alone. Salmon slices 10/10

Cold dipped soba noodles were okay, but a bit salty, where we had to drink almost half a bottle of water to rinse it down. Consider your flavor before ordering it. 8/10

Salmon and salmon roe don. The salmon was not as tasty as the sashimi, the slices were thin, but still good. However. The roe it self has a chemical taste, which makes me uncomfortable to finish the dish ( I ended up only eating the salmon and some rice) 6/10

Sea urchins ( I’m really sorry for leaving this review, with out the urchins and oysters, I would give you guys 5/5) were bitter, sour, with a extremely strong chemical taste than the salmon roe. This is fairly surprising, because me and my friend visited Komatsu around late September, the sea urchins were the best. But this time, the sea urchins were not buttery, creamy, umami, slightly sweet. I rate the sea urchins 2/10 :(

Pacific oysters the size were large, and I’m grateful for size. Yes, the oysters were soft, chewy, plump. But the ones I had tasted like the oysters were dipped into a chemical solution to get rid of the...

I'm going to say something borderline controversial, but udon is actually my favourite Japanese noodle! And it all stems from this one morning we were staying in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It was cold, and we had started all previous mornings on our Japan trip with an egg sandwich and tuna onigiri from the local Lawson or 7/11. But that one morning, we came across a bustling corner store with a sign outside that said "200 yen udon". Hellll to the yes. Don't ask me where it was, this was years ago, but it was fantastic and I still can't stop thinking about it. Any good udon noodle soup these days takes me back to that morning at that mysterious corner store I might not ever find again. This udon was at Komatsu in Rhodes, one of our go-to sushi restaurants. Great sushi here - I wrote a post about the sushi omakase here last year (still one of the best value omakase in Sydney). But they do a la carte sushi, sashimi and other Japanese fare too, like this udon. Man this udon hits the spot. Udon's pretty simple, but it's exquisite when executed well. The noodles have a slight chew to them. Springy, with a nice bite. Slippery and slurp-able. The soup is a light Dashi broth, seasoned with sugar, soy sauce and mirin. It's so soothing to the soul. Komatsu's udon was all of the above. It has fried tofu, vegetables and seaweed, and you can pick some extra sides to eat it with too. We ordered a lovely assortment of tempura, with the likes of mushroom, sweet potato and prawn. You can tell by the light golden colour of the tempura coating that each bite was crispy and delicate - a perfect udon soup accompaniment. 📍...

We’ve dined in this restaurant several times and ever since I moved out of the neighbourhood I’ve been ordering takeaway instead, and the quality of the food is still very good!

What I liked about this restaurant is they will call you back when they missed your call, not many places do that these days. At the beginning I used to order my food over the phone and when it’s the very friendly and polite female staff who picks up the phone, it’s likely my order will be turned down because she’ll kindly explain to me that the restaurant will be busy during peak hours and may not be able to fulfil my order which I completely understood. However, surprisingly if it’s the male staff who picks up; I had no issues at all, my order was taken, done and dusted in less than 5 minutes! In the end, I realised whats more convenient is sending my order through a text message and you get prompted responses too! Very efficient!

Must order dish is o-toro because they melt in your mouth with no leftover chewy tendons.

Also, I liked how thoughtful they are when it comes to preparing uni nigiri for takeaways; the sushi rice with uni sits nicely on individual clear cupcake cups and the seaweed sheets were packed separately on the side so they don’t turn soggy by the time you reach home....
