Service was good, however food was overpriced for the portion size. When my partner and I (we are both locals, ironic) came for breakfast I ordered the eggs in the pan which came with a piece of toast, 2 almost raw eggs and about 100g of tomato capsicum purée that smelled nice but was bland as hell. My partner got a piece of toast with 2 mushrooms and a small ramekin of sour avocado, a long with a small glass (200ml) of “Green juice”. All together this cost $45! We understand that the bland and terrible taste of the food may have satisfied a wealthy senile person with dilapidated taste buds, (which is most likely the major demographic here) so we ate the food anyway. Quite happy to (literally) pay the price for our disappointing meal that we just ate, we decided to enlighten them on our experience politely as we both work in a restaurant and understand the value of customer feedback in order to make improvements. Upon explaining that our food was bland, totally not expecting to be reimbursed, Gordan Butina (who was working as the barista and the owner of the “fine” establishment) asked if we had eaten all the food, implying that we were somehow misrepresenting our experience, he then said “ you shouldn’t have eaten any of it if you didn’t like it” and further explained how we were most definitely wrong. Gordan’s hubristic attitude is really what inspired me to write this review as you would think that charging $45 for two very small and very tasteless breakfast meals would make him take our feedback into consideration. At least, that is how we would do it in the restaurants that we work in. Safe to say, we won’t be coming back here to burn any money and will be spreading word around the town of...
Read moreJust had a horrible experience here. An older man was sat next to me and kept interrupting me whilst I was trying to have a conversation I remained polite and friendly. He then asked me if he could give some of his fish and chips to my dog. I politely told him no and that my dog had had enough treats as the nice waitress had already given him some and so had I and that he doesn’t eat “human” food. I said this respectfully and in a kind voice. A few minutes after I turn around and he is feeding my dog his fried fish! I immediately tell him that I asked him not to do that and ask him to stop immediately to which he starts screaming abuse at me, he was vulgar and inappropriate and screamed in a very loud aggressive and scary manner. My friend intervened and told him not to behave this way and was also verbally abused. Everyone around us seemed shocked. This would have so far been just an incident and I would have probably returned however then a male staff came and checked on the man (called him Robbie) and asked Robbie if he was ok and if everything was fine!!! When I was the one to have been verbally abused by him! He dismissed me when I said actually no it’s not fine he was very rude to me, and then instead of speaking to me he spoke to my male friend and dismissed the whole thing saying Robbie isn’t quite right… I find it so disrespectful to not even acknowledge that I, as a women, was just verbally abused and to also then only speak to my male friend and again to make sure “Robbie” is ok and just dismiss us… this was just unacceptable behavior...
Read moreTHE LOVELY LAMINGTON
I was once surprised to receive a delicious Lamington. It was one of these afternoons when I decided to take a break from my office. I went across and Vanija had just made Lamingtons. She came to me and said, “Nicolas try this” I already had ordered so I took it with me. I was supposed to bring it back home to share with my partner. However, after opening the bag and trying the Lamington I simply could not stop. It was so delicious.
The carefully coconut-coated portion was melting just by looking at it. My eyes could only think about the sampled I took a bite from. When I started to eat again, I was surprised by a rather unique strawberry jam on the inside. It was like having afternoon tea with grandma. The cake itself was so moist it was a delicate pleasure to the pallet. I wish I had taken a photo of it to illustrate my thoughts. I had the pleasure to try some of Vanija's other cake-creations before, but this was something else.
The local’s corner is truly local, there are several opportunities to eat, and a vast choice of food for every budget. I particularly enjoy the adaptability of team, especially when I turn up almost at closing time. Nonetheless there is always someone trying to accommodate my needs, I find this rather helpful, especially when it is so last minute.
I encourage anyone to go to the Local’s corner specially to enjoy, good food, time with friends, as food brings people together. Deliciousness brings happiness The Local’s corner certainly lives up to that.
