Mad Mex Hornsby — Restaurant in Sydney

This Mad Max is located at the start of the level 3 food hall at Westfield Hornsby. It’s a great location and the restaurant stands out sharply. I ordered a Grande Melt, I’m familiar with this order from other Mad Mex restaurants. I had trouble hearing the questions from the guy making the Burrito because of the loud music playing in the kitchen area. So I just said YES to anything he said. When I was there I was the only person getting an order so there was no rush or pressure to make the order. Because I said yes to everything this order was bumped up in price. Strangely the option to have jalapeño’s never happened in the final build stage, it’s almost like all that was rushed. The Burrito was wrapped up and toasted for 2 mins. Now remember I have had this order before from other Mad Mex’s and I strongly feel this was a smaller offering. Even though I chose the ‘hot’ sauce it wasn’t very hot. I had to add lots of the table sauces to get this Burrito humming. This restaurant sadly has a very small dining area and is lacking the hardcore Mexican decor other Mad Mex’s I have been to. Considering the great corner location of this store it’s sad the restaurant area is so restricted. As I was eating and studying the Burrito it started to get busy. A customer next to me had the Nachos and it looked excellent. That had me thinking my Grande Melt wasn’t as grande as I was hoping. I’ll put this down to a one off. I did notice the staffer who was making my Burrito did forget the tortilla initially, the black beans almost were poured onto the paper wrap, I’m thinking he was half asleep so I’m also thinking he’s not doing the best he can. 25 September 24. Tried again today after 2 years posting Since it doesn't allow me to post a new review I have added to top of old post So here we go The payment /Serving / pick up was full of food debris and I said on pickup "do you think you should clean that area"? (yes we'll do that. she said) Yes .... Then for the next 10 to 15 minutes whilst I ate the young girl decided to speak to every Co worker who worked in the shop and then take a phone call outside as her mgrs was out the back. Their was Rubbish on the floor some Tables were grubby X 4 Yes all the bins were over filled so I left all my waste material on the table and thought oh there's the manageress she's walking around doing all the work not looking at anything or supervising stuff. Tip "Work on the business not work in it."😕 Poor management . But is hard busy looking worker Can't blame the young staff x 4 if mgmt can't get it organized. 2 yrs ago . Old post.... below . Had the beef nachos today with cheese. the portion size was quite small considering the cost of $11 and therefore the toppings were very small as well the freshness was ok considering it was just canned corn and canned beans but the size of the portion was quite small considering what others around are offering...

A bit disappointed. I know that there are no strict Covid rules, but the guy in the line behind me had no mask and kept closing up behind me as I was ordering my burrito. He kept on reaching over to grab tissues and cutlery while I was still trying to talk to the people serving. Even if there was no such thing as Covid, he was in my personal space so much it felt uncomfortable. Turns out he was the owner, which shocked me even more as he took one bite of his food, went over to the bin and chucked it away but not before spitting his mouthful in. A while later as we were eating, the lady who I assume co-owns the place with the man was sanitizing tables, dropping her cloth onto the floor then proceeding to continue to wipe. Defeats the purpose, doesn't it? Unfortunately, she then went on to clean the bins, putting her hands in to press down the garbage (along with the spat out food from the man before!) then went back to putting a tortilla in the grill without changing her gloves! I sat there in disgust and shock. I was so excited to have a mexican joint so close to home, but I don't think I feel comfortable eating here again knowing there is so many sanitary violations that make me sick in the...
