My friend with Chinese background recommended this restaurant with words of "they are rising now, which means this restaurant becomes increasingly popular in Chinese community. Service - I can see they are trying hard to break rules many Chinese restaurants have. Maybe some people feel like their service is still not good enough but for me they are trying hard to provide better service but just not very sophisticated, yet - for me this is already great enough because they are trying hard.
Ordering food They are different to ordinary yumcha restaurant people can see in bigger metropolitan area. There is no trolleys wondering between people but food should be ordered from menu. Negative things will be 1) there is no fun to choose food from trolley 2) need to wait for food to come 3)need to rely on own luck sometimes But there are several positive parts especially if people are already familiar with yumcha such as 1)no need to worry about losing a chance to eat favourite dish even arrived late 2)food is just steamed or fried so all food is nice and hot! 3)no need to be interrupted to give a way to trolley every minute. 4)all price is well informed on menu so can plan budget prior to ordering food.
Food - When I consider where I am, Hornsby, they serve decent dishes. All food I have tried was great, never expected this quality in Hornsby. I dare to say their yumcha is the best in Hornsby + Waitara. I have already tried here twice within a month - considering frequency of dining out of my own (apprx. 4 times/month), this is enormous. Unfortunately, they have less selection of food comparing larger yumcha restaurants (with trolleys), but for me they have all "must have" plates, so this does not bother me.
Price - can be expensive if order with instinct: I did once and we spent $65 for 2 people. Can be alright if order with plan : I did at 2nd time: we spent $40 for 2 people. Both include tea and dessert.
I highly recommend this restaurant to people if they 1)are living in Hornsby or Waitara 2)want to enjoy yumcha with enough time in quieter environement 3)want to enjoy with...
Read moreThe food is clean and decent. Not a lot of variety but decent enough as it's the only yumcha place in hornsby area.
However today experienced a very poor service from a waiter. We wanted to switch to a round table a little further inside of the restaurant as we were sitting at the middle of the restaurant which has a lot of noise and find it hard to hear each other. We asked kindly if we could change and the waiter rejected by saying we're already settled and implied that it's too much of a hassle for him to move us and clean the table. He continued by saying weekend is very busy and doesn't have the time to do that sort of thing for us and walked away. I must say this is the first time in my life that's been not allowed to change tables in yumcha just because the waiter thinks it's too much of a hassle to help his customers. We didn't make a mess on our table, just some scattered tea drops which can be easily wiped clean.
Sometimes an experience, positive or negative, can have an overpowering impression. I am disappointed with the service I received today. I hope the management can improve upon this because just decent food...
Read moreI went there last night for dinner with my partner. We ordered from a side menu, spring rolls, bbq pork buns, crispy prawn wontons and I asked for soy sauce noodles. The waiter said they only made that during yum cha which is fair enough. I asked for a dish that was similar and we got stir fry noodles with beef and veg, it was nothing like the soy sauce noodles, still nice but I wouldn't have ordered it if it wasn't recommended. At the end of the meal a lovely lady came over and could tell I didn't like the dish. I told her that I actually asked for something else and she happily insisted that she make the dish I asked for originally at no charge and apologised. We also came in with our 9 month old baby and a lovely waiter was very attentive with her making sure she had a high chair and our pram was sorted. I would definitely go back, this was my 3rd visit and it won't be the last. The spring rolls are enough to get me back through the door...
