Martha's — Restaurant in Sydney

After much anticipation to dine at Martha's, we were incredibly disappointed by the standard, quality and freshness of the food. Service - we couldn't fault. Hospitable, warm and friendly - and french! Entree - the terrine was overly chunky and not smooth and tasted stale. Gravalax had a nice taste to it but again, salmon didn't taste fresh. Twice baked cheese souffle was over-done and should be called 10 times baked souffle. Clearly it was cooked ahead of time, re-heated a few times as it came out like a dry sponge. We couldn't eat it. The special of asparagus tasted just like steamed asparagus with little flair. The duck was similar to the souffle - cooked well ahead of time, reheated possibly a number of times and all moisture removed so it was tough and dry as leather. We couldn't eat it. This was our second visit and I booked a week ahead to make sure we got a table only to arrive right on time to NO table. My husband and I hovered around on the footpath for a while trying to decide if we should go somewhere else. Staff came out and suggested we should sit at a table with bench seats that was set for about 6 people. We should have gone somewhere else. Service was slow, bench pretty uncomfortable and when it came the food was disappointing. We loved this place the first time we came and raved about it to everyone. A great dining experience shared with treasured friends for over many decades. The food options which appear to change daily set up a cuisine which truly delighted the palates. The entree (or starter) options allowed for a mix and match for two or even three course meal choices which were of exceptional quality. The servers and chefs managed to build upon the menu options to deliver a fine dining experience which could easily be backed up many times a month.
