From the moment I stepped into 'Meet the Greek,' I felt transported to a warm and welcoming corner of the Mediterranean. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the staff's genuine hospitality immediately made me feel like a valued guest. But the true stars of the show were the dishes! The grilled octopus was simply divine – tender, perfectly charred, and bursting with flavor. Each bite was a testament to the chef's skill. The BBQ chicken souvlaki was equally impressive, juicy and seasoned to perfection. And for dessert? The chocolate loukoumades were an absolute dream! Warm, fluffy, and drenched in rich chocolate, they were the perfect sweet ending to an incredible meal. Beyond the exceptional food, the customer service was top-tier. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. I wholeheartedly recommend 'Meet the Greek' to anyone seeking an authentic and delightful Greek culinary adventure. This restaurant has earned a permanent place on my list of favorites, and I can't wait to return!

I made a reservation for 7 people over a week in advance. When I arrived, my name was on the list but there was no table ready. We were a few minutes late for our booking but all the other tables were well into their meals, so it didn’t seem like our table had recently been given away due to being 2 minutes late. We then waited 15-20 minutes before they could figure out where to seat us. That was fine, I don’t mind waiting. They ended up putting together two tables outside and seating us there. They gave us a small appetiser of pita bread, olives and taramosalata on the house, which was nice. However, over the course of our dinner, there were loud cars with roaring smelly exhausts blaring by, reminding us that we didn’t have the table we’d originally hoped for. Sure, it’s Brighton le Sands but it wasn’t really the atmosphere we had been hoping for. Aside from this, the food was really delicious and the service from the waitresses was excellent, but I was left a bit disappointed by the disorganisation of the booking service.

Meet the Greek – Brighton Beach, Sydney I recently had dinner at Meet the Greek in Brighton Beach, Sydney, and it was genuinely a great experience from start to finish. The location is nice and breezy, perfect for a relaxed meal near the water. We ordered a few dishes, and the highlight for me was the fried Greek cheese — perfectly crispy on the outside and soft, melty on the inside. Definitely something you shouldn’t skip. The staff were friendly, professional, and attentive without being overbearing. The service was smooth and the atmosphere was calm and welcoming — exactly what you’d want after a long day. One moment really stood out: I asked someone in the kitchen, “What time do you close?” and the owner happened to be walking by. He looked at me and said, “We close when people leave.” It wasn’t said as a joke — it was respectful, and it made a strong impression. It felt like they really care about making sure every guest enjoys their time. Great food, great people, and a place I’d definitely return !!

This is a particularly difficult review because as a restaurant, it crosses the boundary into an entertainment venue to reconnect the Greek diaspora with their culture as well as giving Aussies a taste of Greece. You’ll see from many reviews, the blaring bouzouki is either hate it or love it. It’s relentlessly played at a volume to stifle conversation and long term exposure guaranteed to cause deafness. Behind the entertainment is the food. Authentic but not necessarily good, but it doesn’t have to be because it comes second to the theatre, the food is only a support act. All this adds up to a cash cow for the owner because of the throngs wanting to get in on the Greek theme. The venue would cater to twice the patronage if space allowed. And this is where it all starts to go wrong. We had a booking, arrived at the designated time and no table available. The staff were covered in sweat trying to wrangle those leaving to those waiting to be seated. Finally got seated in a tiny space that required many instances of having to stand to let other patrons through. Starters, spanakopita which was mediocre at best, octopus which was overdone, calamari at fish and chip shop standard and saganaki cheese. Mains we had roast lamb and pork off the spit. The lamb was way over salted and some bits beyond chewable. Overall, the meats were overdone bordering on well done, but nice enough. Had 2 Greek salads which were pre prepped and refrigerated, one of my pet hates along with the cucumber not peeled. Without the blaring music, I’d rate this somewhere between 2 and 3 stars. I hate restaurants that entertain, and seeing I came to eat, it gets 1. No, I would not bother coming back here...

We got invited to join a get together with friends, It was very hot, probably still in the mid 30's when we arrived and when we got inside it wasn't much different. Our table was against the wall, next to the bar on one side and a stack of cartons on the other so we hemmed in and just got hotter, if they have airconditioning, either it wasn't working or we just couldn't feel it in out boxed off area. We asked for some water, which we got, however it wasn't chilled , apparently straight out of the tap. We ordered the Seafood platter, grilled Haloumi and Moussaka. I didn't eat the Haloumi however the others seemed to like it, my wife had the Moussaka and she thought it tasted different and was more like a package one. The Seafood plate was mostly over cooked the octopus was tough and even difficult to cut with the table knives. The calamari were crummed and tiny and looked like they were straight out of a packet from the supermarket, and the fillet of fish looked like it had been steamed because it was very soggy, with no taste what so ever. the plate of chips were probably the best part. Considering the grilled mixed seafood, with fish, prawns, octopus, calamari, chips and a salad for less than 1/8th of the price from our local shop cooked properly I'll never go to Meet the Greek again. At least there was no music like a number of other people complained about, and the staff were quite good. My other comment is about the website, It's very distracting with the close up of the person eating olives while you are trying to look...

We arrived at the place 8:30pm ordered our meal probs around 8:45pm. The service was really slow after we placed an order mind you there were only 5-6 tables full only on a thursday night. We ordered greek salad, eggplant dip and calamari with lamb skewers. The greek salad and eggplant dip came in 5 mins straight after we ordered along with our drinks after we had finished these the calamari came 30 mins later and we finished that too.

Time is 9:35pm and no sign of the lamb skewers we were full by now. The waiter didnt even see me signal him and i got out of my seat and told him to tell the chef to cancel the skewers because were already full. He goes tells the chef but brings the skewers legit 2 secs after i spoke with him. time now is 9:45 pm. We try to eat it but its half cooked and were already full. i tell the other waiter the situation and that we asked for that order to be cancelled as from the place i sat i can see that the lamb skewers were not even placed for cooking by the chef. The waiter told me as soon as i asked for it the skewers they were being prepared i said your kitchen is not my concern its been an hr and my food is finished im full, the skewers came so late. He tired to convence me that it wasnt the chefs problem and they were busy (mind you the place was more than half empty) . They made me pay the 26$ for the skewers that i wanted canceled and did not eat at all. The waiter knew we were in the right but made us pay still. I would not recomend you to go there for a...
