UPDATE: I came back here after my last review in December. I had pad Thai which was extremely chewy and the worst pad Thai I've had, I didn't want to waste the food so I just ate it but I let the staff know and they informed me it's a new chef (in December). The portions were also stingy with very little vegetables and tofu so I decided not to return for awhile. Portion sizes are smaller than other Thai restaurants.
We dined here last night (June 2024) and I had the laksa which I was looking forward to, I could just taste fish sauce and lemon, it was incredibly so so salty you could not really eat it, it was extremely disappointing and I didn't enjoy it and didn't finish it. Not the creamy dreamy laksa you normally would get.
They hardly put any vegetables and are very stingy, it was all basically rice noodles and sauce, and I had about six pieces of tofu a thumb size each which I think is very stingy. Barely any vegetables! I ordered the vegetable and tofu laksa.
This is the second disappointing time; it's not the good food it used to be a few years ago.
They've also been adding too much sugar to everything and everything is overly sweet and they're ruining it. My friend's coconut rice was very sweet, too sweet.
Also I think the female owner (I think she's the owner who is always there, maybe in her 30's) always has a bad look on her face and she's not friendly and is unprofessional which puts me off. She needs to be more friendly and do a customer training course as she is running the restaurant purely for money grab in my opinion.
Going by the reviews people are not impressed with her nor the portion sizes and their food with lack of flavour.
We will not be returning anymore.
Portion sizes are small for meals. Smaller than other thai restaurants. Overpriced. Main $30 under 'chef's special'.
Service not friendly. Their portion size is a 1/3 compared to the full amount you get at other Thai restaurants in the area. After my stir fry meal I was left hungry, and I don't usually finish a full Thai meal. Not much meat in the portion. It could do with a clean up too, table was sticky with lacquer coming off. They do not let a party of two sit at a bigger table in case more people come in a bigger party and LIE it is reserved. Given the other reviews they need to educate themselves on good customer service and politness. Typical rude thai restaurant runners. No self awarness of their behaviour. Do...
Β Β Β Read moreI ordered two portion of pad thai from this restaurant for takeaway with plans to enjoy them by the beach. I left after picking them up. Half way walking to the beach I realize there was no cutleries in the bag. Upon returning to the restaurant, I waited respectfully and patiently at the front of the counter while the middle age lady do her thing. By the time she had finished tidying up her table, she saw me standing there and decided to ignore me. Another staff saw me standing there for quite a while and approached me. Knowing that I only wanted a fork she quickly grabbed me some. I was thankful for her prompted action. The middle age counter lady saw me and asked me why are you back? I thought that was rude to approach your customer in that manner. I said that there was no cutlery in the take away bag. She reacted with a awkward face and turn to attend other matters. Just like that, a simple request could reflect how impatient and disrespectful this middle age lady is. I did not feel welcomed. Trying to enjoy the meal while sitting down, opening the boxes realizing I was given an incorrect option. I wanted beef but was provided with chicken. The food was way too salty and did not meet expectation of a thai style pad Thai. In summary, poor service from this particular middle age lady, poor quality and unprofessional. Thai Thae hurstville does a better job than them. From a first time customer and aren't you glad I won't...

Their Pineapple Fried Rice was the best I have had. π The rice was flavoursome added with turmeric spice. The seafood version had lots of big pieces of seafood such as prawns, mussels and squids and all cooked to perfection. π
I also enjoyed Hor Mok By The Beach. It was a mixed seafood cooked in thick red curry paste, coconut milk & egg served in a fresh coconut. The curry was rich and full of lovely coconut taste. Great presentation, great taste but the coconut meat was hard and inedible, not the fresh young ones I had in Thailand. π
Crispy Fish Fillet with Apple Salad and Crystal Prawn were both great appetisers. The crispy fish paired with cashew nuts and apple salad was appetising with a salty, tangy, sweet, sour and spicy dressing. πPrawn meat in Crystal Prawn was bouncy and fresh. It was a bit underseasoned but once you dip in the sauce, it came back to life. π
Seafood Platter consisted of five big king prawns as well as an array of seafood. Although the king prawns were a bit overcooked but the dish was a great value. π They need to improve on the dipping sauce though, the chili and lime sauce didn't really go well and too vinegary in taste. I prefer the green seafood dipping sauce which is commonly served in...
