Muchacha Mexican Kitchen — Restaurant in Sydney

We went there the other night and I was really pleased with the experience. The service is the fastest I have ever experienced in the Northern beaches. We ordered the starters to share that came out in record time. They were on the small size though but we were happy with the taste and the variety of the menu. We ordered burritos for the main and I was happy with my selection (I think it’s called the tropical, it had pineapple and mango in it). I shared mine with a friend and the rest were happy with theirs as well. We were offered 5 different sauces that they left at our table to try and share. The staff was friendly, polite and professional. We were told they were closing in a very polite manner so we left feeling that we could have stayed longer. This is a BYO place and the bottle shop is right beside them so it is definitely a very convenient location. I will be coming back there to try the other dishes in the menu. I saw quite few chefs in the kitchen so I trust the speedy service will continue being a plus. Overall we were very happy and surprised about this new place. Most of the tables are outside in front of a parking lot but that didn’t take from the atmosphere which is really something to mention....

A local North Curl Curl restaurant, walking distance from home, but unfortunately a real disappointment.

We ordered a range of food - nachos, tacos, pork salad. All were bland and tasteless. (And the soft taco fell apart in the middle as you were eating.) Bland tasteless food - a perfect spot for kids/teens for gutfill.

Service was just awful and the basics not in place (ie table numbers). We ordered inside the restaurant and our order was delivered to the wrong table (who then started eating it even though they hadn't ordered the same things). And whilst I'm really tolerant on the challenges in hospitality at the moment, this was just on another level. The waitresses tried to clear plates (twice) while we were clearly still eating and there was food left on them. And then we were presented with a bill, despite having paid upfront inside.

A real disappointment after reading such great reviews. We found the food disappointing - probably a great place to take kids and teens for a feed - but not at all authentic Mexican.

Muchacha offers both table service and ordering from the kitchen. I'd recommend ordering from the kitchen as you pay at the same time (and avoids incorrect bills later).

In terms of food choices we had a range of different things - tuna tacos, chicken tacos, nachos and one of the salads. All really lacked the same thing - taste/flavour.

In terms of drinks, you can BYO which is great (there is a charge) - and a handy bottle shop next door.

Service needs a lot of work - with the waitresses not knowing the basics (ie what food goes to what table, that they need to wait until people finish eating or plates are empty before trying to clear the plates). No tap...
