The new kid on this block of well known restaurants situated on the coveted Woolloomooloo Wharf, is called “IL PONTILE”. It’s now “residing” where “Crinitis”used to be.. Covid & lockdowns weren’t kind to most businesses & upon returning to Sydney for a brief visit, we popped down to the wharf to find many of the usual restaurants closed down entirely, or closed for renovations. This however, left the door open for “Il Pontile “ to woo over some otherwise diehard Manta or Otto clientele, by keeping their doors open, lunch & dinner, dine in or take out ( as I would learn later !!) We happened to be staying at the Ovolo, so it was just a matter of popping downstairs to peruse the wharfs offerings. Absolutely superb, food, service & ambience completed the entire package . From the martinis to the complimentary after dinner limenchelo(sp) liqueur, both my partner and I were treated like vips each time we dined -which was several in the brief trip . We couldn’t move past the initial dishes be we’d chosen -“the Man” had a lamb ragout and myself an eggplant Parmesan . The complimentary bread was to die for as well, which soaked up any juices left from the melt in your mouth meals ! Our waitress Rosa deserves a special shout out as she was not only so adept and descriptive with her menu knowledge but so personable and such a delight ! Even after I had some oral surgery, I asked my partner to run downstairs ( ovolo hotel ) & ask for a serving of “eggplant parm” as I was convinced it was the only food I could eat that was not only good for my body but essential for my soul! Will be back to Sydney shortly and I’m already getting excited about taking some family members there for a special treat as we catch up ! Definitely worth giving “Il Pontile “ a try when you head down to the Wharf, if you...

My friend and I had six course seafood degustation last night. It was a lovely evening. The host was lovely, the food is not too bad except for pipis which had sands in it? It was very grainy for sure and my friend even agreed. We booked there at 6:30pm and around 7:50pm, the waiter came to our table and said they have our last dessert ready and have to leave in 10 mins because the tables are booked for 2 hours only. He was rushing us out of the restaurant and implied that we had to eat dessert within ten mins. I looked at my watch and it was only 1 hour 30mins since we arrived. At that point, our evening was ruined. What kind of restaurant rush the customer out of the restaurant without checking when they came in first? I will tell you this, we ate pretty fast too. It was not like we took our sweet little time and enjoy each course for 30 mins. It was really quick. On Red Balloon website, it even says please allow 2.5 or 3 hours for this whole experience. I was furious that we were asked to leave the premises within 1.5 hours without the waiter checking the time first. I told him we arrived at 6:30pm and by the time he came to our table, it had only been 1.5 hours and we are not going to leave at 8. If I am paying this much money, I wouldn’t expect the restaurant to rush the whole experience. I would not go back again for sure. The evening which was supposed to be for my birthday celebration was ruined. Never going back again to the restaurant which name themselves as fine dining yet the service is not up to...

The food quality is very good, tasty and generous, the prices are very high for some simple Italian food. The servings were generous, but I guess they need to be at $50 for a plate of pasta. Would I recommend Otto? Maybe, the view is super, and the service was very good, the staff were attentive, but not over bearing. Would I go again? No, just too expensive. Likes: The mussels were excellent, with a rich tomato sauce with a slice of Otto's home made sour dough bread. The pasta was plentiful with deep favours. The pasta is made daily in the restaurant and the freshness comes out in the dish. The seafood is fresh, and the staff recommended a nice wine to pair with my meal. Dislikes: A couple of things which I didn't like (other than the price). I asked for a Chinotto which they did not have, you claim to be Italian, have a couple of cases in the back of the cool room (come on, you can pick up a case from any Italian deli for about $10 a 12 pack). Also, the suggested tip on the bill (WTF), last time I checked we are still in Australia, the conservative government has not taken away the minimum wage and only some worker's rights. Please remove this from your billing system, this is embarrassing as an Australian. If you are reading this as a traveler to our fair land, please be aware only tip for exceptional service, it is not a custom in Australia and it is not expected.
