SO GOOD We had such an amazing meal tonight at a local place in Auburn called Peranakan Place Nonya Cuisine. So apparently this place is really the only place in the southern hemisphere that serves two particular dishes. It specialises in authentic Singaporean Malaysian food. The owner Sam Wong is 70ish years young and he wanted to open this restaurant so people could try traditional Nonya cooking to Australia. Service was amazing and he explained the origins of the food with such passion. Nonya food is fragrant, herbal and takes on influences from local ingredients and in some cases Thai (Penang and Malaysia) and Indonesian cuisine (Singapore). Entrees we started with Top Hats X 4 = $11.90. These were crunchy little tart shaped molds filled with bamboo shoots, yam bean and topped with a tiny prawn. So flavoursome with juicy crunch. 2nd up was the Ngoh Hiang which is a mixture of prawn and pork wrapped in crispy tofu skin and deep fried. These were deliciousy crispy and juicy and fresh especially with sweet and sour sauce served on the side. Ok now the HERO dish. Ayam Buah Keluak $34.90. Ayam Buah Keluak is considered the ultimate Nonya dish according to Sam. It is chicken braised with buah keluak seeds from the Kepayang tree from Malaysia and Indonesia. These flavour of the cooked seeds are meant to taste like truffle and I was like ORLY THAT'S MY JAMMM. It's a fascinating ingredient as the seeds come in a Kepayang fruit the size of a rugby ball and the seeds must be comprehensively treated. The raw seeds actually have hydrogen cyanide in then and are highly poisonous unless they're fermented. I have no idea who the first person to figure that out was but it's crazy. You eat it with a little crab instrument. The chicken was melt off the bone and so juicy. The whole thing takes 2 days to make and you can't get it anywhere else The pineapple prawns were also so good and tumeric flavoursome we had to order more roti to soak it all up. This is also a specialty of the restaurant you can't order in other places. Dessert was DURIAN rice pudding and black rice pudding served HOT was creamy and delicious. GO HERE IT'S GREAT!

Overall: 4 stars (the near perfect 5 stars taste gets discounted by the longer waiting time than other Sydney restaurants, probably have to justify with good food takes time) First picture is the 5-spiced pork roll (ngoh hiang) for $9.90 Second pic is the rest of our order. Orluak: 5 stars Otak: 5 stars Achar: 4 stars (tumeric taste too powder-ish, perhaps a mixture of fresh and powder tumeric might help reduce the powdery texture while keeping cost in check?) For ngoh hiang: I personally prefer daintier size and only cut it up after frying (as this is juicier than cut prior to frying). Value for money: 1 star (I might feel happier paying $25 for 3 rolls platter with some cheaper condiments like fried beancurd, rather than a single roll for almost $10) Presentation: 1 star (no cucumber chunks or carrot strips at the side) Taste: 4 stars (can't win the last star from me because I can make ngoh hiang myself to my own preference, mine would be part of a lobak platter with "lor" sauce too and that's the last star). Thanks.

It was relatively quiet when we went. That said, we waited for the dishes to arrive. Despite the emphasis on requesting that the nasi goreng cooked without meat, it came with chicken on it. The owner asking us to separate the chicken out is a disappointment. The so-called replacement nasi goreng still has remnants of chicken. We suspected they just took the dish back to the kitchen and removed the chicken pieces. By now, we didn’t want to kick a fuss and ‘tapow’ the dish. The Penang char kuay teow was dry. The pork lard is soft, an indication it may have soaked in oil for far too long. The minuscule prawns were hard, probably in the fridge for too long. Mee goreng is passable and vegetarian hor fun seemed on too. Read the excellent review but unfortunately it is my bad luck and not my experience. That said, the owner is jovial. Unfortunately this time round, the food didn’t matched up.

Re: response to owner:- I know namyang and Papa Rich are franchise, I was just setting an example of the dishes.

parking at station road or Melton Street is easy to find parking I was just saying some days it might be busy and it's packed full of cars. I've been to those streets few times before so that's why I mentioned it's sometimes difficult to find parking in general. I didnt just mean today. Today there was plenty of parking space. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Dishes were still nice but just expensive for the portions.

Sunday 13th April 2025 Late lunch around 1:30pm - 2pm.

Me and my parent's first time trying this place. It says it's a Singaporean restaurant but it's really just a mix between Singapore, Malaysian and abit of Indian or Pakistani

Food: Had the beef rendang, hokee mee, nasi lemak:- hokee mee came with seafood and crispy pork skin. With vermicelli rice noodles and abit of hokkien noodles combined together. It was delicious in flavour and had the wok hei, but the noodles were too soggy, and the dish only had squid strip pieces and 2 prawns, and few crispy pork skin. It's mentioned in the menu that it also had fish cakes but there wasn't any single one of it. There should be at least 4-5 prawns, more ingredients including squid and fish cakes with the noodles. Price wise for portions they give is VERY EXPENSIVE.

nasi lemak wasn't what we expected. At Guildford and other Malaysian places like Nam Yang and Papa Rich, they serve a larger portions with chicken Maryland. And their sauce is quite spicy, along with having rice, egg, peanuts, other nuts, and dried fish with abit if stir fried greens. The plate is full with one chicken Maryland. With this place, the chicken pieces only came from the wings. We know a section of the wings where it joins the body of the chicken that actually looks like mini drumsticks, and the other section of the wing. Before the wingtip. Only had that, so small, overcooked, flavour wasn't right and the portion is so small that the price of this dish is RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE

Beef rendang: Portion's too small, flavour is nice, probably the best dish out of the 3 dishes we tried. Having more rice with it is ideal if you don't have enough rice, ask for more. It is recommended.

Overall result: Since it's that expensive, sorry, won't be coming back.. it is way too expensive for the price and portions they give and it's not even fine dining. Even though their food is good, I'm glad I've tried this place, but I won't return But Thank you for the delicious meals, but apologise to say, me and my parents won't return. It's way...

Had party cater from this restaurant. They did not cook all the menus we had paid for (costing more than $1000). Food wasn't that good & did not cater for all our visitors including us. Not recommended for big party at all.

I went back to you before the event date and told you personally that there is 5 more people coming equals to 45 people & ensuring that food is enough for those people as you stated there will be enough food & actually 2 people couldn't make it so that's less than 45 people.

Why would you replaced an okra that we already talked about? Written orders has been given a copy to you & you calculated all the servings to fit my guests. Okra was supposed to be part of the menu, but you guys didn't deliver as promised? I've seen all the photos of the foods that proved it.

What is the problem with my guest arriving late? Or what's wrong with me arriving late? We paid half already for the cost. So us arriving late meaning there's no food left for us? It's obvious you guys didn't cook enough food at all as me & my husband arrived there was no food at all. So disappointing and embarrassing to look at the buffet table with no food & guests is wondering where's the food? Yes the take away food was the foods you guys cooked at the near end of the party. There's no point of a buffet if you guys ran out of food to serve. I think it would've been cheaper & better if we ordered an individual main meal per table where everyone can share. There's no need to rip people off especially there has been verbal agreement prior to the event.

None of the guest verbally stated they liked your food.

Very disappointed in your restaurant & the foods.

Yea Godbless to you too. Hope you can improve on...
